My son was really eggscited that we had the opportunity to review the Smashers Dino Ice Age Surprise Egg. We received two sizes, the mini which really isn’t so mini an the MAMMOTH which really is huge! There are 25 surprises inside the larger egg and 6 inside the smaller egg. We peeled off the plastic wrapping label and then C-R-A-C-K my son opened the first one. The shells are strong blue plastic and can be put back together again to store the goodies inside. They break easily into pre-formed pieces, no sharp edges or small pieces to worry about.
He was delighted. The idea of cracking it open was fun straight away and inside there are lots of smaller packages hidden inside, a treasure trove of dino treats. We loved the Stretchy Snow, a type of fluffy slime which is incredibly tactile and so much fun to meddle with. Another package has slime inside which is much like any other slime toy and it’s a lovely glacial blue. The bags are resealable so this isn’t a single use toy and can be stored to play again and again. We also had expanding snow which came with a pre-formed transparent plastic iceberg which you can pour water into and watch the snow grow and pour out of the top. This really appealed to my son, measuring out the water and watching the snow expand. There’s also a fizzy pack which rapidly fizzes up a spectacular blue cloud of bubbles and hugely amplified in size. Make sure you have a big enough bowl or a sink for that one. Again my son found this fascinating and loved experimenting. There’s also a dinosaur piece embedded in each of these larger bags for your child to eggscavate from the fun substances and they, once discovered, fit together to create a moveable Ice Age creature figure.
My son had a smashing time throwing the small puzzle eggs and finding the surprises inside. He even got one of the limited edition cave men which glows in the dark so the fun went on even after bedtime. There’re the size pencil toppers and seem to have the correct size hole to fit on a pencil too. The puzzle eggs can be rebuilt and smashed over and over again. In the mammoth sized egg there’s a base to help little fingers rebuild the eggs.
There are illustrated leaflets inside each egg so you’ll know what you’re getting and the names of each of the Ice Age creatures inside, along with collectors information and even where to find the Smashers App so you can extend the play and interact. It’s no yolk!
You won’t have to shell out a lot for your child to have fun. There are several different sizes to choose from. We received the Mammoth sized egg which retails at around £19.99. We also received the Mini Egg which seems to vary in price from around £7.99. If you’re looking for an alternative to a chocolate egg or you fancy an eggstra special treat for the young people in your life, this is a lovely gift.
My son is 8 and he was thoroughly engaged in opening the packages and eggsperimenting for over 90 minutes. He later sat with all the figures and puzzle eggs for another hour or so. I know there will be more play value in these toys yet to come, I think they’re good fun. Perfect for your little budding archaeologist or dinosaur fan. For ages 3 and over.
