Despite being well into my 40s, I’m a relative newcomer to period pants, having always relied on more traditional period products. I’m really passionate about sustainability, though, so once I’d gotten over my initial scepticism about reusable options, I started trying a few high‑street brands to see what all the fuss was about. With that in mind, I was genuinely delighted to be offered the chance to review the Lunette “Periods Are Cool” period panties.
I liaised with the company to make sure I ordered the right size, as the website recommends “sizing up”. Being perimenopausal, I’ve recently put on a little weight, so I genuinely wasn’t sure which size would fit me best- currently I’m a size 14 (UK). The team were incredibly helpful, and when my parcel arrived I was delighted to open it up and find:
2 pairs of medium-sized ‘Periods are Cool. Period Panties’
2 pairs of large-sized ‘Periods are Cool. Period Panties’
1 box of Lunette Yoni Intimate Wipes
1 tube of Lunette Lube (100ml)
Each pair of period pants was individually packaged in a small plastic bag with a push-seal, labelled with the company name and size, with plenty of information and instructions printed on the back. However, given the RRP of £24.50 per pair, I was expecting a more premium feel to the packaging. The plastic bags felt a little basic for the price point, and I would have preferred either a more considered, eco‑friendly design or no plastic at all with a simple product label attached directly to the garment.
Once I got past the packaging, I was genuinely impressed with the feel of the fabric. The pants were soft, smooth, and had a really good amount of stretch. Compared with the high‑street brand I’d tried previously, these felt noticeably softer and far less bulky — a very welcome surprise. When my time of the month arrived, I was actually excited for once, because I couldn’t wait to see how they performed.
I was pleasantly surprised by the fit. They were really comfortable, and I loved that the waistband sat higher and didn’t cut in under my belly — a small detail, but one that makes a big difference, especially during perimenopause when comfort is everything. They immediately felt better than the ones I’d tried before.
Although the Medium size fitted well, the large size were that tad comfier and I would opt for the large size, if I were to buy more. Fitted with a high gusset, to assist with reducing the likelihood of leaks, the pants performed surprisingly well and it genuinely didn’t feel like I was wearing anything other than ordinary underwear.
In terms of absorbency, these period panties are intended to be used alone for light to medium flow (approx 25 ml or the equivalent of 3 tampons worth of liquid) for a period of up to 12 hours, making them ideal for overnight use (if you’re lucky enough to get that much sleep!).
For heavier days, these panties are recommended to be paired with one small menstrual cup – I can’t comment further on this, as I’ve not yet gone down that route. Although the Lunette lube sent to me, is perfect for use with menstrual cups, to ease insertion into place.
One of the biggest wins for me was how easy they were to wash. With the high‑street brand I’d tried previously, I had to rinse them out until the water ran clear before putting them in the machine, which can be off‑putting, especially for younger or squeamish wearers. With Lunette’s panties, you can simply pop them straight into the washing machine at 40°C. No pre‑rinsing required. Just avoid using fabric softener and the tumble dryer, as heat can damage the leak‑proof layer.
These pants come in sizes XXS to 5XL, so there’s a size for everyone, which is brilliantly inclusive.
I used the compostable Lunette Intimate Yoni Wipes throughout my period to help me feel fresh, and they did exactly that. They’re fragrance‑free, pH‑balanced, and designed for sensitive skin, which makes them gentle enough for regular use. Each wipe is a generous 17cm x 14cm, giving you enough surface area for a proper freshen‑up.
The pack of 20 individually wrapped wipes comes in a neat little box — easy to pull out one or two to slip into a handbag, schoolbag, or even a coat pocket if you’re out and about. They’re discreet, practical, and ideal for travel or long days when you want that extra bit of comfort.
The only drawback is the price. At £10.99 per box, they’re on the steeper side for something you might want to use frequently. They feel premium, but the cost makes them more of an occasional treat than for everyday use.
At the time of reviewing, I hadn’t yet tried the Lunette Lube, but a look through the brand’s website gave me a good sense of what to expect. It’s a vegan, water‑based, pH‑balanced formula that’s designed to be gentle, moisturising, and suitable for sensitive skin. Importantly, it’s also compatible with silicone, rubber, and latex, making it safe to use with menstrual cups as well as sexual wellness products.
It comes in a 100ml tube with an RRP of £13.99, which places it in the mid‑range price bracket for a natural, body‑safe lubricant.
Overall, I was really impressed with these products from Lunette – all their period products can be found at: https://uk.lunette.com/collections/all – they are perfect for women of all ages from young girls, right up to women navigating perimenopause. I’d definitely recommend these products to my friends and family.
