King Jack and the Dragon by Peter Bently Review

Reviewed by Samantha MacKenzie

Amelia (aged 5): It is a story about 3 boys who pretend they fight dragons. It has pretty pictures and is good for girls as well as boys.

Mummy: It is a beautifully illustrated story, it has a lovely rhythm to it, and rhymes which both my girls love. It has similarities to Julia Donaldson’s works, (The Gruffalo etc) but the writer does have their own style too. The characters are playing and using their imaginations, having wild adventures.

Amelia wanted to read it the first time, and with the rhythm she managed to get the inflections and expressions right. Immediately she asked I read it once she had finished, and then my three year old listened too.

The illustrations are beautiful and the text perfectly sized for new readers to read or follow. I would recommend this to other parents with children of a similar age group to mine, I think it is a future staple of home and school libraries.
