As this is a men’s shaver, my husband was the one who tested the Wahl Lifeproof PLUS Wet Dry Shaver and used it regularly over several weeks so that we could give it a fair review.
First impressions were pretty good. The shaver feels solid and well made, with a reassuring weight to it. In fact, my husband accidentally dropped it onto the bathroom floor while taking it out of the box, which wasn’t the ideal start, but it didn’t seem to suffer any damage at all. It certainly lived up to its reputation for being tough and durable – certainly “life-proof”.
One of the best features is the waterproof design. My husband tested it during a shower on several occasions and it performed exactly as expected. He even dunked it into the bath to test the claim that it is waterproof up to a metre, and while it felt a bit weird to drop something electrical into water, it still worked just the same as before afterwards. Being able to shave in the shower or bath is convenient and it also makes cleaning nice and simple. A quick rinse under running water was usually enough to remove any hair, making maintenance quick and hassle-free.
The battery life is another strong point. The charging time is very fast and a full charge takes only around five minutes. Once charged, it provides approximately 90 minutes of use, which is more than enough for several shaves before needing to be charged again. This makes it particularly useful for travel or for anyone with a busy routine.
The included accessories are a nice touch. The storage bag is handy for keeping everything together, and the cleaning brush and oil help with ongoing maintenance. One feature that my husband particularly liked was the precision trimmer hidden on the back of the shaver. It slides up easily when needed and is ideal for tidying sideburns, shaping edges and trimming eyebrows. It’s a simple addition, but one that makes the shaver more versatile and useful for everyday grooming as you’re not trying to find extra blades or tools to switch between a normal shave and some precision shaping.
The only reason we haven’t given it a full five stars is the quality of the shave itself. While it works well for reducing stubble and keeping a neat appearance, it doesn’t provide the same close, smooth finish as a traditional razor. If you’re someone who prefers a completely clean shave, you may find yourself disappointed. However, if you regularly maintain short stubble or a five o’clock shadow, this shaver is very well suited to that and does the job effectively and comfortably.
I also think this would make a very good Christmas gift. It’s the sort of practical item that many people wouldn’t necessarily buy for themselves, but would genuinely use on a regular basis. The premium feel, durable construction, fast charging and useful accessories all help it feel like a thoughtful present rather than just another grooming gadget. The included storage bag is particularly useful for someone who travels frequently or likes to keep their grooming kit organised.
Overall, this is a well-built, durable and convenient shaver with excellent battery performance and genuinely useful waterproof functionality. Although it wasn’t quite the right fit for my husband’s preferred shaving style because he prefers a very close, razor-like finish, it’s clearly a high-quality product that will suit many users, particularly those who favour a short stubble look rather than a completely clean shave. It would also make an excellent Christmas gift thanks to its practical features, premium feel and impressive battery performance.
