Imaginabox Aeroplane Review
Imaginabox Aeroplane

The Imaginabox Aeroplane kit from Halilit comes in a small card package with a clear front, showing the contents. I have to say just the red plastic steering wheel was enough to make my son excited and wanting to get it out straight away. Of course the only downside is that you have to supply your own box! That’s obviously quite easy to get hold of (I have a distinct advantage of a husband who works in packaging), but I made sure I had the box available before showing my son the Imaginabox set, otherwise he might have been disappointed.
The idea of this kit is so simple, yet so incredibly handy for a young imagination. It includes the steering wheel, a wingnut to attach it to the box and various stickers for wings, control panel and propeller. My husband went a little further to cut the rear flap into a tail fin and the side flaps around the wing stickers.
I made the box more comfortable with a couple of cushions and put our son’s little step stool beside it. He was in and out all day! He took various toys for rides, got his compass out to show him where to go, told me to sit behind him (I declined – Mummy’s a bit too big), flew to the park, the seaside… all over the place. He refers to it as his aeroplane, wants a pilot hat and I’m pretty sure we’re going to have to keep it forever now.
I remember in childhood that cardboard boxes could be anything you want, although we still added important accessories – a paper-plate wheel, some bottle-top buttons etc… Imaginabox is a perfect opportunity for the instant transformation of a plain box into a vehicle, especially for someone as artistically challenged as me! It is quick to construct, with easy instructions and promotes imaginative and pretend play. The price is reasonable for the quality of the product and my only concern is that the stickers are supposedly ‘reusable’ however we tried to peel a corner off and it was no longer sticky (a replacement sticker pack is available to buy for £4.99 as well as replacement straps for £5.99). Not a major problem since we’re already happy with what we’ve got!
