There is a certain guileless joy in reminiscing about your childhood through toys and books that gave you hours of pleasure as a youngster. One of my favourite characters from childhood was Winnie the Pooh from the Winnie the Pooh stories written by A.A Milne, and so I was delighted to receive a Hundred Acre Wood Disney Winnie the Pooh soft toy to product test.

Winnie the Pooh arrived in a recyclable, brown paper bag and because he has a soft body, he was packaged in a safe, secure way. Winnie the Pooh measures 28 cm in height and 23cm in width when he is positioned in his default seated position. Winnie the Pooh’s arms and legs can be moved from left to right but there are no moveable joints in this particular cuddly toy. He has the characteristic, rounded belly, presumably from eating all of the honey – Winnie the Pooh’s favourite food – and this added to the cuteness and cuddly factor! On Winnie the Pooh’s left paw, he has a ‘Hundred Acre Wood’ circular badge, a reminder of the setting that most of Winnie the Pooh’s adventures took place in. As this toy is designed to be given to children from birth, there are no bead or glass eyes – instead the two small, brown eyes are sewn on. Winnie the Pooh also came with a label around his neck, secured in place with a thin, brown ribbon. This would, of course, need to be removed before giving the toy to a small child.

The overwhelmingly standout asset of this Winne the Pooh soft toy was for me, the softness of the fur, described as being ‘plush’ – it was so extraordinarily smooth and tactile. The cuddly toy was also extremely cuddly, and the stuffing was the correct balance of firmness and squishiness! On investigation of the body of the soft toy, it appeared to be well-made with no obvious defects or small holes in the stitching – I got the impression that Winnie the Pooh would ‘last’!

I absolutely loved this soft toy as it brought back feelings of nostalgia. I cannot wait to tell the newborn baby girl who has been gifted this Winnie the Pooh soft toy all about the adventures of Winnie the Pooh and his friends as she grows up. I am hoping that this soft toy will either become an extremely loved Winnie the Pooh who gains bald patches due to being so loved and hugged, or a Winnie the Pooh who can sit grandly in the child’s bedroom and be passed down through generations. He could even be joined by his friends, Piglet, Eeyore and Tiger as I saw on the website that there are other ‘Classic Pooh’ cuddly toys in the Hundred Acre Wood collection. Either way, this adorable Winnie the Pooh soft toy would make a wonderful gift for a young child, and I do think it is good value for money, considering the high-quality of the toy.
