I was lucky enough to receive a pair of Oppo Enco Free 2 Earbuds to review, they are marketed as True Wireless Noise Cancelling Earbuds, I was really keen to see how well they worked.

They arrived quickly in a compact box, inside was the usual kit- instructions, charger cable, rubber ear tips in 3 sizes and a neat charging case in a clean white design containing a pair of smart and stylish earbuds also in white.

I took them out and tried them on making sure the ear tip was the right size as directed and got them linked up to my phone via Bluetooth as standard. A really easy process and now that they are linked the connect as soon as the case is opened. Easy Peasy. If you need help to check the fit of the ear tip there is a smart app to help choose and maximise the noise cancellation.

I opened my music streaming app and started a playlist because I couldn’t resist getting stuck straight in. The sound quality was flawless, completely crisp. Everything you would hope for in an earbud. I quickly learnt to tap to make them noise cancelling which successfully drowned out the cartoons the kids were watching. A light tap again set them in ‘transparency mode’ which allowed me to hear some of the background noise as a standard earbud would. I love that there are both options. Sometimes you just need to drown out all the external noise like to drown out the traffic on the school run and others I need to be alerted if needed for example if the kids are calling.

So that was my initial impression, great earbuds, stylish and compact case…no complaints from me but then I realised I hadn’t fully appreciated how clever the Free 2 earbuds were…..time to read the instructions.

The battery life boasts an impressive 6.5 hours, 30 hours using the charging case, the ear buds automatically stop playing as soon as you take them out and start again when you put them back in.

The triple mic call system, made calling people a breeze when out and about and without any of the usual difficulties being heard or sounding in a tunnel.

The ear buds are an easy touch control system, which like anything takes a little time to become second nature, double tap to skip, touch and hold for 1 second to go from transparency mode to noise cancellation, slide finger up or down for volume control and double tap to answer/end calls. You can even take a photo while using the camera on your phone with a double tap.

If you are looking for the perfect gift for a teen or tech lover in the family, then seek no further. These would crack a smile out of the grumpiest teenager on Christmas Day and then they can go on ignoring you using the noise cancelling feature.

The Oppo Enco Free2 Earbuds are available to buy for £89. In my opinion this is completely brilliant value, there are cheaper options on the market but the clarity of sound and noise cancelling feature is the best I’ve come across. Well worth paying a little extra for.
