As a lifelong fan, I was extremely happy to be given the opportunity to review the Winnie the Pooh Complete Collection by A.A. Milne, which is a 30 book compilation in a presentation box on sale at Books2Door. The first thing I did was head over to the website to check out the collection and I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of information on the website about the items, including a short YouTube video showing the set in detail – this would definitely be very helpful if I were wanting to choose an item, especially if I was choosing a gift.
The website recommends these books for the 0-5 years age group, although I am sure they would be enjoyed by children of a wider range of ages and adults alike. I proceeded to select my item and place my order which I found very easy and not at all ‘faffy’. I was pleased to see that there was a customer service number in case I needed any help – this was displayed on the home page and although I like the convenience of ordering online, I also like to know I can speak to a real human being if I have any problems, however I am pleased to say on this occasion I didn’t need any help as everything went smoothly, so I didn’t get to try out this service. I did note though that Books2Door are also highly rated on the Trustpilot website, with lots of positive testimonials, this gave me great confidence in my selection and I was not disappointed.
Once I placed my order, I did sign up for the text tracking and I received a message to tell me when my order was shipped, however nothing else after this which was a little disappointing, but I did have had the option to download an app to track my order too, however I chose not to do this and to be honest, I didn’t have to wait long for the delivery (5 days – as stating in the delivery information), so it wasn’t an issue for me.
When my order arrived, it was well packaged (but not excessively so if you have concerns about the environmental impact). I felt that the packaging was important as the presentation box is as much a part of the item as the books, giving it the feel of a collectors edition, and whether I had purchased this for personal use or a gift I would want it to arrive in tip top condition and this was definitely the case with my order – the box and books were in pristine condition. Having the box is also a nice touch as it helps keep the books altogether and again helps them remain in good condition, a lovely keepsake and would make a great new baby, 1st birthday or Christening gift.
The books themselves are slightly smaller than A5, but a great size for small hands, and each story is a good length for a young child. The books are well illustrated and colourful to help keep the attention of a young child, with the characters who will be familiar to most grownups from their own childhoods. The pictures were definitely a firm favourite with my young relative with whom I shared the books, and she had already decided her favourite was Piglet! The only slight down side is that in this age category, the paper pages or outer sleeves may get damaged by over enthusiastic little readers, so adult supervision or even better an adult reader would definitely be recommended but these books would be great for shared bedtime stories especially as Winnie the Pooh and his friends are so loveable and the stories are gentle, whimsicle and heart warming – perfect for young children and with nothing at all scary to stir up bad dreams. With thirty books to choose from there is also a good variety of stories to suit all and we loved choosing a book to read together although one or two are bound to be firm favourites!
The Winnie the Pooh, complete collection would make a substantial gift. Costing £29.99 (instead of the RRP of £149.99) this is a great price point for thirty books in a presentation box, costing only just over £1 per book overall and is a great way to share the nostalgia of our childhood with future generations. Too often gifts given at Christmas are forgotten by January, however this wonderful book set will keep giving enjoyment for years to come both for the child and also their parents who will no doubt enjoy reliving their own childhoods as they read these books over and over with their little ones, a fantastic way to inspire children with reading and promote positive development and bonding. I have no doubt that this would quickly become a treasured bedtime story collection in any household – a fantastic gift to give!
Cost: £29.99 (editor’s note – at the time of putting the review online) plus £2.99 postage and packing
