With the summer months fast approaching, and more of us looking forward to spending time outside in the sunshine, now is the ideal time to choose a seat to relax in. Whether you need a comfortable chair for the garden while you enjoy a tasty barbecue, or something to use while camping or at a picnic, concert or sporting event, a good-quality seat makes outdoor activities a joy. The Vango Divine chair in granite grey does just the job and will suit all of these occasions.

Vango are a familiar Scottish brand of camping equipment who combine a stylish design with quality materials. Originally purely a tent manufacturer, the company launched in 1966 with an anagram of their original location of Govan used for the brand name. They have since expanded their range to include tents, sleeping bags, rucksacks and – of course outdoor seating.

At first glance, the lightweight bag it arrives in is just regular storage; a lengthy handle making it easy to carry around the campsite with a strap wide enough that it sits comfortable on your shoulder. However, the real treat is hiding inside – a chair with padded seat and backrest plus an insulated cup holder integrated into one of the arm rests. The padded seat is made from durance fabric – a strong and durable polyester fabric ideal for outdoor use. The back of the chair is slightly higher than most so, combined with the padded fabric, this makes for a very comfortable seat.

The weight of the chair is 3.6kg; which I felt was not too heavy and not too light. It is easy to manoeuvre while being sturdy enough not to topple over easily. The legs of the chair have a decent sized plastic base which avoids any sinkage into soft ground (should the summer sunshine make way for an occasional shower!). The textured frame feels strong enough not to bend and the folding mechanism makes it easy to open and close the chair without any of the juggling that you get with a deckchair style seat. The maximum load weight is 120kg or 18st 12lb, perfectly adequate for most adults. It is easy to imagine a soft drinks can or bottle of something equally refreshing keeping chilled in the cup holder.

Accompanying the chair was a small booklet with information about the warranty, basic features and tips for using it. Important facts included that it was designed and tested in the UK although made in China. Vango offer a 2 year warranty, which will be extended for an extra year if the product is registered with them. The storage bag fits snuggly around the chair when it is time to put it away and has a handy toggle to keep it securely inside.

I think this chair is a great price for the quality. The design is very practical and the padded material balances comfort and style. Vango products are always made to last and I expect this seat to be no different. It would be perfect as a gift for someone who enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle or just a way of treating yourself.
