As a family, we are big fans of blind bag collectables, and it’s a huge bonus if there is something to create. We also love to travel, so they often come in really handy for filling in travel time, not taking up a lot of space, and having a collectable element. We have tried many, with varying success, so when these came through the door, I was super excited.

I was sent two of the new Mini Brands Create Disney snow globes, just in time for Christmas! Size wise, they’re perfect for stockings and light enough to send in the post. They make lovely small gifts, and they’re great for passing time on journeys over the holidays. There are so many different themes to collect, including Halloween, making different food items, Disney snacks, mini vinyl and mini books! We prefer the ones where you need to build something, so these didn’t disappoint!

There are nine to collect, which adds to the appeal. You can’t see which one you’re going to be building, until you unbox it. The scenes include popular movies such as Toy Story, and Moana.

They look enticing with a bright purple design, and are appealing for all ages. Once you have torn off the plastic coating, then there is a white ball underneath which contains everything you need to create your own mini snow globe.

In the white ball, you receive a bottle of solution to add to the water, a small pack of glitter shapes, a scene split into four pieces. The main part of the scene and the backdrop come in the white ball, and then you also get the plastic globe itself, inside the globe, will be paper packets containing the characters. You also receive a thin paper ribbon for decoration, and the base of the snow globe.

Each scene has a character and either a sidekick or a prop, and they’re super cute. Their faces are well painted, so they don’t have strange expressions. Trust me, I have seen some mini Disney figures, and sometimes they’re painted really oddly. These are lovely, as are the sidekicks. Simply slot the piece of plastic backdrop into the base, clip in the additional pieces and that’s the scene complete.

Turn the plastic globe upside down and add the glitter and solution, then fill with water. Once full, rest the scene upside down on the top, and attach the base. The base will seal it closed, but it can be opened again if needed. I did struggle to get all of the bubbles out of the globe, but on a few tries we had less air bubbles. The whole process took around five minutes, but could be longer or shorter depending on who is building.

They were so easy to build, and even of you didn’t add the water until later on, the globe can still be built and glitter added. Just save the solution and water for later on.

In our globes, we got to build Moana, who is in the scene with her friend Pua, she has cute flower shaped glitter. We also got the Frozen set, with Elsa and Olaf in a light blue scene. It is really cute, and definitely worth the time and effort to build.

After several days of shaking and testing, they didn’t leak at all!

The only thing packaging wise, would be that the plastic outer could be swapped out for something else, but this would affect the shelf life of the product. We have seen some wrapped in biodegradable paper, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to adapt. The plastic balls are also unsuitable for recycling locally, so in the future this is something that the company could look into.

We gave the kits a rating of five out of five stars. They kept the children busy with something that is easily transportable and can be put together with minimal fuss or mess. Meaning they can be ideal for situations where you need something to occupy them without screens or for a fun activity to fill time. The snow globes themselves are pretty, and well made. There is a good range of films included too, so something for everyone.

Rating: 5/5

The age rating is 3 years plus, which is about right I think.

You can find the snow globes here www.smythstoys.com, however I have also seen them in other stores such as B&M, Amazon and in supermarkets. So you could probably pick one up with your weekly shop. Their recommended retail price is £9.99, which is a little higher than I’d probably go for something like this, but you can pick them up for around £6-7 or in multi packs, which offers much better value for money and I’m pleased to pay that price point.
