We sailed into Milton Keynes positively brimming with excitement to see Mamma Mia this evening, debating all tunes ABBA, and what would be our favourite anthem of the night. We joined many others at Milton Keynes Theatre via the bar for a quick beverage. Milton Keynes Theatre is surrounded by ample parking options, the closer you want to be the earlier you need to arrive.

My daughter and I took to our seats in a packed auditorium and were full of anticipation for the show. Mamma Mia would be our number one musical, we haven’t seen it for a while, normally in London, and wondered if the UK tour would live up to expectations.

Not only were we not disappointed, we think this was the best yet. Mamma Mia is a timeless story set to the ABBA theme tunes of the seventies. If you have not seen the show before (why not?) then this is Sophie and Skye’s story, the run up to their wedding, told using, effortlessly I might add, the songs of ABBA. You really don’t need to be a fan of the music to fall completely in love with every character.

The set is simple, the costumes of the whole cast are vibrant, much like their characters, the music and vocals are outstanding. The highlight of the show had to be when Donna played by Jenn Griffin belted out the Winner Takes it All, the vocals and emotion that went into that song were just brilliant.

The story is set on a Greek island and just using the lighting and the simple taverna set, along with the bright summery outfits almost made you think you could smell that sea air. This show is full of laughs and at the heart of every good story, love.

Hazel Baldwin who plays Sophie had the audience eating out of the palm of hand, it was hard not to enjoy the lovely Samuel Downey who plays Sky, along with his very handsome friends, who spent considerable time showing off their very handsome bodies! We should also mention the talented ladies playing Tanya and Rosie, Sarah Earnshaw and Lauren Woolf, both great throughout, along with the ‘dads’ Harry, Bill and Sam, played brilliantly by Arvid Larsen, Simon Victor and Richard Taylor Woods.

The play list is one of dreams, too many to list, but firm favourites, Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Super Trouper, I Have a Dream, and many many more, it was very hard at times not to help them belt out those show stopping numbers.

This is a show that’s has everything, great actors, toe tapping top tunes, a great story and emotion by the bucket, I don’t think I have seen a finale quite like the ending of the show, and the encore was second to none, just simply brilliant, flipping ABBA tastic!

We have seen the show countless times, but would go back tomorrow in a heartbeat, grab your tickets this show is selling fast and is only in town until the weekend. Brilliant, just brilliant.
