Dare I say it, but Christmas is approaching at a rapid rate. Those merrily little elves might be busy preparing toys in the workshop, but us parents need to be ahead of the game and get our kids presents ordered, wrapped and under the tree all in time for the BIG day to arrive!
I always ask my daughter to give me ideas on what she might like to receive for her birthday and Christmas presents. She will spend many an hour circling items in catalogues and enthusiastically drawing up a list of her dreams.
One item that regularly features in various different versions and forms, is a ‘hands on’ crafting based experience. When the opportunity arose for me to review The So Slime Experience Lab Set, I thought this would make the perfect gift for her to unwrap on Christmas Day!
The So Slime Experience Lab set is a fun and creative slime experimental kit – perfect for children who love slime and science! Hours of fun and entertainment can be had crafting various textures, colours and scents all whilst getting ‘hands on’ with arts and crafts.
For me personally, one of the biggest attractions of this set is that kids have the opportunity to customise their creations to suit their own preferences. This will make the activity feel more engaging for them and gives them the chance to let their imagination run free. By adding colours, fragrances and decorative elements, each creation is styled in a more personalised and unique fashion.
I love the laboratory aesthetic design of this set and all the bright colours. I feel this will add to the appeal, particularly for children who enjoy imagination based activities and play.
As with most children’s interactive toys, you will require the need to purchase batteries (specifically 3 x AA) for this set. In order for the instruction computer to work (the centre screen of the lab) there is an ‘on/off’ button. This screen provides a step by step instruction guide, which your child will need to slowly work through, following the recipe steps, in order for them to create their masterpiece! This is a great way for teaching children how to follow recipes and for kids to learn how to measure out ingredients. Each ingredient is labelled with a number or letter, making the instructions easy to follow and for children to feel like they are true scientists. By scrolling through the on screen options (using the forwards and backwards buttons), the So Slime Experience Lab Set may also encourage children to develop patience, follow instructions and explore their creativity in an enjoyable but methodical way.
For parents looking for an activity that keeps children occupied and away from the standard screens of TV’s, computer games, phones and iPads etc, this could be an appealing option, even though a small screen is required to be followed for the instruction steps.
Another positive to the set, is that it could be enjoyed on more than one occasion. With different slime textures (including crystal, fluffy, bubble, metallic, crunchy and cloud options) and with so many decorations and customisation possibilities to explore, children may find themselves returning to it to try new ideas and more creations. The set even comes with an extra set of components ‘A&B’ which I believe are the main slime creating ingredients, making the set last a little longer and go a little further.
This set could be potentially a fun activity to share with siblings, friends or family members. It would be suitable for rainy days, play dates and school holiday entertainment ideas for kids.
As with most slime based products and kits, be warned…. It can get messy! This is not my first ‘slime’ rodeo, so I will ensure that we use a washable surface, wear older clothes, and have some space to work within. For younger children (the kit is aged 6+ years) you may find that adult supervision and assistance might be required when measuring ingredients out, following the instructions, or when handling the materials.
Overall, I think the So Slime Experience Lab Set would make for a fun, festive gift for any child that enjoys getting their hands dirty, being creative and experimenting with slime!
I would rate this product 4.5/5
