Never having been to a tap dancing show, my only previous experiences were the TV films such as “Singing in the Rain” and the show Strictly Come Dancing both of which I love, I didn’t know what to expect, but I have to say it was possibly one of the best hour and ten minutes I’ve spent at any show. I was absolutely spellbound and blown away by the whole experience. Everything about this show is phenomenal. The high energy and spectacular choreography and tap and jazz dancing performed by RB Dance Company, the stage props and how these morphed into each scene with complete ease, the lighting which was amazingly orchestrated. And, not forgetting the wonderful costumes which the cast seemed to seamlessly change into in seconds. The music was also perfectly fitting to the show and helped make the scenes and story come to life.
Romain Rachline Borgeaud – writer, composer, director, choreographer and producer who founded RB Dance company in 2018. His love of dance started at a very young age where he studied both tap and jazz in both Cannes and New York. His love and passion for dance and choreography is really evident in every part of this show. The foundations of this started in 2017 when the first sketches and ideas were born. Romain also performed in numerous musicals in the United States some of which included A Chorus Line, Cats and Hairspray which no doubt enhanced his skills and experience to produce such a wonderful performance.
The story is based on a successful young actor called Icarus, who is a big hit on the screen but has continual clashes with his oppressive and controlling film director. After a particularly fierce confrontation he finds it increasingly difficult to break away from the director’s stranglehold. The high-octane storyline captures everything from dark drama, thriller, action and romance.
This is a must see show and it really is suitable for all age groups whether you are into dance or not. The audience ranged from teenagers to pensioners and each and everyone gave the cast a standing ovation at the end, and make sure you do stay until the very end as there is an amazing unexpected finale. It’s unique and perfectly performed and had the audience captivated and in awe the whole way through to the last minutes. I really can’t recommend this enough.
If you can’t get to see this at The Peacock Theatre before 31st October it’s showing at various theatres around the country until mid November. You really will not be disappointed.
