How could there possibly be a connection between Taco Cat Goat Cheese and Pizza I asked myself when I received my latest card game to review? I soon realised though that when said out loud, at speed and combined with eye catching cards, they soon became components of an interesting, competitive game!
Designed by Dave Campbell and produced by the Blue Orange games company, this is a fun game – simple in its design and execution but guaranteed to have a loud, competitive results. Combining the simplicity of Snap with an added fun element when special cards are laid on the table, this compact game is sure to be a hit with all the family.
Packed in a very strong box adorned with eye catching graphics, I was intrigued to see what the game entailed and eagerly open the box. Inside there were seven separate leaflets with full game instructions printed in various languages. Simply find your country and begin reading – much easier than looking through a large sheet with all the languages on. The instruction sheets were clearly written with good sized print and fun illustrations throughout. After a quick read through everything seemed straightforward and play could commence.
The cards were strongly made and felt really durable. I loved the colour theme and the illustrations. Basically the aim of the game is to get rid of all your cards while saying Taco Cat Goat Cheese and Pizza in turn as you place your card on the central stack. If what you say matches the card placed down everyone has to slam their hand onto the card stack. The last person to slam their hand down has to take all the cards from the stack and add to their own pile. Play continues until somebody has got rid of all their cards. Beware though – the colour of the cards and illustrations can vary – not all the cat cards are green or the cheese cards purple! Also within the pack there are ‘special’ cards. These require an action to be performed by all the players before they slam the pile. The three special cards are Gorilla – when all players have to beat their chests, Groundhog – where you need to knock on the table with both hands and Narwhal – which requires everyone to form a horn above their heads with their hands!!
Our family certainly had fun trying out this new game. The main difficulty initially was remembering the order of Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza – especially for the children – so I kept the box nearby as a reminder. While keeping the word order correct, it is also important to keep a steady rhythm and speed. Say the wrong word, hesitate or slam your hand down at the wrong time and you have to pick up all the cards in the pile. Great fun was had by everyone doing all the actions on the special cards. With the compact size of the box, this is an ideal game to take on holiday to play for a competitive games evening.
As a family who enjoys playing board games, this was certainly one of our favourites. Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is simple to play but great fun – the perfect game for a family games night for all ages, Be prepared for a noisy evening filled with laughter and sore hands though!!!
