It’s a refreshing change these days to find something that actually does what it says on the box. I was very sceptical when I read the claims made by Vamoosh Pet Hair Dissolver, because past efforts to de-fur our cats’ bedding resulted in blankets that were still hairy after washing, and a washing machine with clumps of soggy cat fur inside and round the door. Vamoosh’s claim to be ‘the genius solution for dissolving pet hair on pet bedding and washing machines’ convinced me to give it a go.
Our two big cats are very different – one is black with very fine sleek fur which he doesn’t shed much, the other ginger and white with thick, dense fur which he leaves everywhere so I have a collection of small blankets for their favourite sleeping spots. I am a great believer in following the instructions on the pack but was a bit taken aback by the recommendation to use the machine’s ‘longest/hottest cycle (85/95°C)’ as the blankets were made of light, synthetic fleece fabric which I would normally wash at a low temperature and only for a short time. Nevertheless I put a selection of blankets into the drum, emptied the contents of the sachet into the tray along with some of my usual non-bio washing powder, turned the machine up to a 90°C setting, crossed my fingers and pressed the on switch. This was going to be quite a long wash, so I left it to run for what was probably at least an hour and a half before going back to the kitchen to see what had happened.
My first reaction on taking the blankets out of the machine was how soft they felt as I was quite expecting them to be shrunken and matted by the high washing temperature. Then I examined them very closely and was amazed to find only a few odd hairs here and there, probably attracted by static, but to all intents and purposes, they were genuinely completely hair-free! What’s even better is that the washing machine was also hair-free, even in the folds of the door seal, and the inner edges of the drum – the kitchen paper I used to wipe round it came out clean.
The last part was to put the blankets in the tumble dryer, again something I would not normally do with items made of fleece, but the instructions say that this ‘maintains fluffiness’, and indeed it does. I have washed and dried these blankets several times now with the same excellent results.
I wholeheartedly recommend Vamoosh to cat owners like me as it certainly has worked each time I’ve used it so far. Blankets come out of the dryer soft, clean and sweet-smelling and the cats are very appreciative. The sachets are easy to open and use, the instructions are clear and concise, and the manufacturer’s claims are justified – Vamoosh is easy to use, leaves washing machines sparkling clean, and leaves the bedding clean and smelling fresh. This would be an excellent addition to your spring cleaning bundle, to really help keep your house fresh and clean!
