ALDI Makes Life Easy for a Busy Working Man Review

Reviewed by Paul Magnan

I shop at ALDI all the time, so was delighted to get the opportunity to see how far a budget of £70 would go in my household.

I tend to do my shopping on a Sunday morning and on his visit the store was well stocked and products clearly labelled.

As you can see from my till receipt, I spent just £36.99 of my £70 budget, so the £70 lasted me more or less 2 weeks. I even managed to buy some workwear socks as I work as a builder.

My breakfasts tend to be hot cross buns or toast with beautifully buttery.

ALDI has my lunches for during the week well covered. I have their plain wraps with coleslaw, ham and lighter soft cheese. I find these really filling, which is good as my job is very hands on. I take some coffee in a flask each day too.

Some of the evening meals I had were:

  • Beef brisket roast with all the trimmings. The potatoes roasted perfectly. The sweetcorn and processed peas taste lovely. What strikes me about ALDI is that whilst the cost is kept reasonable, the quality is top notch.
  • Pizza with crinkle cut chips.  This lasted for 2 meals.
  • Crispy bake pork pies & salad.
  • Scotch eggs and salad.

Friday nights tend to be a take away treat.

On the Tuesday night, a friend came around and made homemade chicken & mushroom pie which we had with the crinkle cut chips I had bought. Her mum had cooked the ALDI chicken for tea on the Monday and the leftovers were plenty enough for her mum to have tea on the Tuesday evening and for us to have a generous portion of pie each. The fresh shortcrust pastry was only around a £1 and made life so easy.

As you will see from the pictures I took over the course of the week, I ate so well. My family members thoroughly enjoyed the roast as the beef was so tender and there was enough left the next day for sandwiches.

I would have to give ALDI top marks for quality, staff service and price.

Rating: 5/5
