My friend and I had no idea what to expect when we went along last night to see The Addams Family at the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh, produced and performed by the MGA Academy of Performing Arts (a local performing arts school).

The Addams Family was a musical comedy showcasing an entirely new story about Wednesday, the daughter of Morticia and Gomez… it told the story of her love for a young ‘normal’ boy called Lucas and took us through a fantastical journey of ‘love, family values, acceptance and compassion’.

From the minute we took our seats to the standing ovation at the end we were ‘with’ Wednesday the whole way. Some of the cast were seated in the boxes at either side, which was a fantastic idea and totally made the audience feel part of the show.

The talent of the whole cast was mesmerising – all having amazing voices, tremendous acting talent and dancing skills. The first half flew by and we were enthralled – there was lots of laughter, giggles and a real feel good feeling to the whole show. The story had you captured from the first notes of the famous ‘Addams Family’ song… We absolutely loved it and really took us by surprise as we really were not sure what to expect.

I had a particular soft spot for Uncle Fester performed magnificently by Peter Vint, he captured the whole audience and helped ‘tell’ the story throughout the whole show, even popping up at one point in one of the boxes.

The whole cast were like true professionals and I was surprised to learn that they were all from a local performing arts academy. They should be extremely proud of themselves they put on a positively West End performance.

It such a pity tonight is the last showing as I am sure they could sell out many more nights.

I will definitely be looking out for any more shows they put on as I know I won’t be disappointed.
