Slimy Joe is the latest game to the market. As the tile suggests, the game is full of slimy fun. Slime is one of those things I think all parents hate but the children absolutely love it and can’t get enough of it. I am filled with dread when they ask for slime or slime based activities
When I showed the game to my children they couldn’t believe their luck, a game with slime. They were both shouting “it has slime, a game with slime”.
Whilst I’m not a fan of slime, I was looking forward to reviewing the game and playing with the family. We love playing games together and always looking for new ones to keep us entertained.
We wasted not time in setting the game up ready for play.
The box contained:
– a bag of slime
– an explorer
– 16 flutterbies
– 8 leaves
– Slimy Joe carnivorous plant
The game is very eye catching. The slime is very green colour and Joe is purple. Very appealing to children. The game was much bigger than I thought it would be which was a bonus and I liked that the slime bowl could be removed from Joe’s mouth for ease of filling.
You empty the slime in the pot that sits insides Joe’s mouth, then mix in the flutterbies and leaves. You then open Joe’s mouth and slide the tab at the back of the mouth to set the time. The aim of the game is to pull out of the slime as many flutterbies as you can before Joe’s mouth shuts on you. Joe’s mouth can close at any time. The winner is the person at the end with the most flutterbies. The game sounds easy but it is trickier than you think trying to pull out the flutterbies and not the leaves with lots of gooey slime all over your fingers.
We played the game with four players. It was so much fun with lots of laughing and screaming. My children found it funniest when Joe’s mouth closed on my hands. Each round of the game took approximately 10 minutes with the game suitable for 2-4 players. The recommended age range is 4yrs +. which I feel is accurate. We played with a 3yr old and they fully understood the rules but the slime could be an issue if left unsupervised.
The slime is very slimy but easily came off the table without leaving any marks. You definitely need to play this game on a hard cleanable surface.
Slimy Joe is super fun for children and adults to play. Whilst also promoting numeracy skills and communication.
When I asked the children why do they love Slimy Joe. Their response were: “it’s funny seeing the funny face mummy fulls when she touches the slime”. “I love it when Joe’s mouth closes on mummy’s hand”. “The slime is so slimy”.
The game is £19.99. I feel that this is on the expensive side for a game but it was throughly enjoyed and played with a lot.
Overall I rate Slimy Joe 4/5.
