We attended the opening of the new “Play at Brewers Fayre” area at the Dalesway in Keighley on Saturday 27th June. The pub itself is easy to find and is conveniently located between Keighley and Bingley with plenty of free parking. The event started at 3pm and we arrived a little early at 2.45pm. We were greeted by 2 members of staff who politely informed us they weren’t quite ready and provided us with a complimentary drink whilst we waited.
We were then shown to our table area and my daughter couldn’t wait any longer and was the first person through the door, dashing straight off into the new play area and was off up the play equipment and down the slide in a matter of seconds. The play area is really light and airy, with an area for older children and a toddler section. There were also ride-on toys for the younger children. The room is decorated throughout with a Dennis the Menace theme including a Dennis the Menace carpet. After a short play, my daughter had her face painted before dashing off back to the play equipment which included slides, rope bridges and tunnels. The toddler area had lots of big bean bags for relaxing on, large cubes to build towers and ‘on the wall’ jigsaw puzzles. Dennis the Menace and Gnasher made an appearance spending time having photographs with the children and causing chaos in the play area.
After a good 90 minute play we decided to order our food. There was a good activity comic for our daughter to play with whilst we waited for the food and the restaurant itself was clean and nicely air conditioned. I had chosen the smothered chicken for my main meal and it was a nice quality, good sized portion. Unfortunately my husband who had the Brewers Fayre burger found the burger to be quite dry and the burger bun had been so well toasted he wasn’t even able to cut through the bread with a knife, which was a little disappointing. Meanwhile the children’s sausage and mash meal was getting a big thumbs up from our 3 year old. Nobody came to check how the meal was although they were quite prompt at clearing the plates after the main meal and bringing the deserts. Although our meal order was brought out correctly, it was a little chaotic in the restaurant as the wrong food was being taken to tables and then being sent back.
After the meal, we decided to go and sit outside in the glorious sunshine whilst our daughter made use of the outdoor play equipment. The outside area is easy to access and had some smaller equipment as well as equipment for older children. The toilets were easily accessible for the play area, restaurant and outside area which is good when dining out with small children.
All in all we had a super afternoon, my 3 year old thoroughly enjoyed using the new play area and I will be checking out other Brewers Fayre pubs in my area.
