What a lovely gift for anybody who already likes a dram of whiskey, or for those who would like to try it for the first time. This set from Drinks by the Dram contains 6 x 30ml bottles of different whiskeys to taste – 5 single malt Scotch whiskey and 1 Irish whiskey.
The set is beautifully packaged in a lovely green box to keep them in until you have been able to taste them all. The bottles are wax sealed to ensure that there is no leaking during transit. The individual bottles are from a range of different world distillers and producers, all with a different flavour and different colours. The set also includes tasting notes – cards that give information on the nose, the palate and the finish of each of the samples – experts of whiskey would know all about these but for newcomers it gives them an idea of what to expect. The back of the cards are left blank for people to add their own notes about the flavours of each sample once they have tried them.
Included in the set are – Singleton of Dufftown 12year old; Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey; Islay Whiskey 8 year old (That Boutique Whiskey Company; Tobermory 12 year old; Talisker Skye and Darkness 8 year old. Which will be Dad’s favourite? What a great way to try different whiskey tastes, find your favourite and decide which to buy in a larger bottle – all available from Master of Malt.

My husband is the whiskey drinker so I have sked him to try a one of the samples using the notes to decide which to try first. After tasting he said – ‘I tried the Singleton Dufftown 12 year old single malt Scotch whiskey’. The 30 ml bottle was a good size for a sample and you get a proper drink from it. It went down very well, very smooth and a good aftertaste. It wasn’t too strong. Overall it tasted like a good quality whiskey. There was no hint of wood shavings as it said on the card. I am really looking forward to tasting the remaining 5 samples and like the fact that there is an Irish whiskey included. I would be very happy to be given this as a gift for Father’s Day, Birthday or as a Christmas gift.
