We have two adorable and much-loved dogs within our household. Pip is a 2-year-old King Charles Spaniel; Willow is a 6-month-old Chorkie puppy. Those of you who have pets will be familiar with the following scenario – you come home from work, or in the case of my teenage daughter from school, to find the water bowl tipped over and empty. This is not ideal at all. I have noticed that Willow, our Chorkie puppy, does like to have frequent drinks of water. She even has been known to jump into the bath and look lovingly at the bath taps. We ended up with multiple bowls of water around the house in the hope of some still having water in at the end of the day. It’s not just the dogs who tip the water over. I have been known to do so myself and then you have a big watery mess to clear up.
When we were given the chance to review the PetSafe 7.5 Litre Pet Fountain, we were over the moon. My teenage daughter unpacked it quickly and set about installing it in place in our dining room. What struck me was how well made it is. I don’t think that this will end up knocked over or spilt. It seems far too sturdy for that to happen, which is a good thing. First of all she had to run water through the activated charcoal filter to clean it. She then popped the top back on. She then filled it up with tap water which was a simple process thanks to the useful lines marking where the water should be filled to. Lastly, she plugged the fountain into the wall. We spent ages watching the water trickle out of the fountain. What I like about it is that you can easily alter the flow of the water with a simple control.
The fountain is big enough that both dogs can drink from it at the same time. Both regularly use it and seem to like it. Us humans rest in the knowledge that we won’t return home to two thirsty fur babies who have managed to tip their water out during their day together and are actually staying hydrated with clear, fresh water.
The PetSafe website recommends that the activated carbon filter should be changed every 2-4 weeks and the whole fountain cleaned once a month. Debris can build up and block the water flow. The website tells me that the pump itself is double insulated and has been tested to meet strict safety standards even when the pump is submerged.
This is the second item that my household has reviewed from PetSafe and I must admit they are now my go-to place for pet products. I love the look of the dog toys and accessories on their website and as a former cat owner am delighted by their range of products for cats too.
I rate this product 5/5 and would score it higher if I could do so.
