I got these ONAIE men’s black sheepskin slippers as a gift for a man but his feet are the same size as mine and so he kindly let me wear them for an evening so I could decide whether to purchase a pair for myself.
I was attracted to ONAIE slippers after looking at the abundance of varied and clear photographs on the ONAIE website. There are plenty of styles and there is also a lucky dip option where you just choose your size and receive a random pair of slippers.
The slippers arrived in a nice sturdy cardboard gift box and were wrapped in ONAIE branded tissue paper. The box was contained within a plastic mailing bag. As part of this company’s commitment to sustainability, they are phasing out the use of these plastic packaging materials which I was very pleased to learn.
The slippers are a true black colour although the description says that the colour could vary due to the colour of the skins used. There is an abundance of fluffiness around the cuffs of the slippers which gives them a really cosy feel and the insides are lined with wool which makes them feel soft on your feet. This is important to me as I find soft insoles in a slipper very comforting. The slippers are just the right amount of warm for me and don’t feel as though my feet would feel sweaty in them if I got too warm, being made of natural sheep and cow products which are sourced as a by product from the meat industry.
The sole of the slipper is made of split cowhide and is formed into a rigid sole shape that extends up the sides and meets the leather upper which is stitched on with large stitches. The slippers I received have gold thread for the stitches but the website description for this product states that the thread may be white or gold, I’m sure either would look nice.
The slippers are guaranteed for 6 months although I’d be disappointed if they only lasted that long. Made by crafts women in Poland each pair is handmade and unique.
I’d say the fit is narrow to average due to the shape of the toe box on the rigid sole although the heel end seems to be a bit roomier. The slippers are easy to put on without using your hands, this is useful for when you need to take the bins out.
As I’m writing this the slippers have only had a few hours wear and are still very stiff on the bottom and therefore quite noisy except when walking on carpet but being made of split cowhide, I expect that they will soften up with wear and become conformed to the wearers feet. They are a bit slippery on my hard floor but I find this is normal with leather soled slippers and that effect will also lessen with wear. They are the sort of slippers that I’d buy as a Christmas gift for my XXXXXXX or my XXXXXX. (editor’s note – words removed)
