At first sight these might look like any other pack of coloured pens but don’t be fooled there’s nothing ordinary about these pens.

Scribble paint sticks look and feel like a felt tipped pen but they are a solid paint stick.  They glide over the paper really smoothly and are a real pleasure to use.

The instructions on the pack say they can be used on card, canvas, wood and glass which can inspire lots of creativity. They are also suitable for use on a white board, but for the purpose of this review I only used them on paper. It’s a long time since I’ve done any colouring in but with these pens I couldn’t stop and the results were amazing.  The colours are so bright and vibrant and the depth of colour stays consistent throughout.  Our four year old loved them as much as I did.  They were very easy for her to grip and she loved the bright colours.

All children love painting pictures and these pens are a great way of painting without the mess.  There’s no brushes or water needed and no transfer of colour from one to the other.  In every paint box we’ve ever had eventually all the colours look the same, a brown /green sludge, and we have to get a new one.  Not with these paint pens.  The colour of each pen will remain true to the end. I don’t think we’ve ever had a painting session where the cup of water hasn’t been knocked over.  There’s no risk of that happening with these paint sticks. Now when I hear the words ”can I do some painting? ” I don’t immediately think of all the mess and try to avoid the question.  I just get out the paint sticks and some paper.  So quick and easy.

There are eighteen paint sticks in this pack.  Six classic colours, six day glow colours and six metallic.  They have a click top to stop them drying out and a twist mechanism similar to the type you get on glue sticks.  They are water soluble but there’s a warning on the pack that they could stain.  Any stains should be removable by soaking over night and washing. When we used them we found them so easy to use and control that we had no issue with paint getting anywhere other than on the paper.  The paint also dries very quickly.

The sticks come in a clear plastic tray inside a plastics box, spread out in the tray.  It makes it easy to see the range of colours and select what you need but I think for easy storing I will put them in a pencil case.
Great for colouring, free hand drawing and also good for any posters or signs as the colours are so bold.
An ideal Christmas gift for children of many ages, this is gift that will be used time and time again, not just looked at on Christmas Day and then put away.

Little Brian paint sticks are available from Amazon.co.uk priced at £13.01 here.
