I am already a huge fan of Learning Resources, but I was unaware that they produced desk-top storage solutions. This review arrived at the perfect time for my 11-year old as she loves art, specifically designing outfits on cut-out templates of fashion models using her supplies. We have pencils, gems, beads, material, ribbon and buttons spread all over her desk and in little bags and pots, it’s chaotic!
This product is comprised of a circular spinning base, and 6 storage pots in arranged into segments. The pots differ in height and have various secure coloured lids making it easier to locate the items you need, and preventing any bits and pieces from getting lost. It’s good quality and provides the desk-top organisation you need. It isn’t intended for bulky items, but rather it is a way to allow your child to express themselves artistically without creating mess and without needing to keep asking an adult for more supplies. The lids aren’t too tight for younger children which is refreshing too, and being transparent means finding the items you need is easy.
The colours of the lids are striking and the containers are of the same width but differing heights which gives you so many options. The central circular pot is great for pencils, and removable just like the tubs, and all parts are washable. Most importantly you have the spinning base to make accessing your bits and bobs that bit easier, and each segment is divided by a ridge so that the pots don’t move around as you spin.
I love the concept and my kids loved the spinning feature! I advise you let them play with the spinner for a few minutes before stacking the pots into place so all that is “out of their system”!
The pots are potentially portable, so you can grab a couple to take to the kitchen table or even to a Grandparents house. The plastic is food-safe so this could even be used in the kitchen for storing items for your budding chef.
This is a great desk tidy, and more significantly for the time of year it is a great back to school item to organise your child for their general homework and school craft projects.
The price-point is £30, and whilst this isn’t extortionate I think I would be happier to pay around £20-£25 for this item.
This product is so versatile that it suits any hobby, as well as both boys and girls. It is tricky to decide on the target age range; the recommended age is 3-7 which I absolutely disagree with based on my 11-year olds response to this product. Of course this is fantastic for my 4 year olds crayons, stickers, pipe-cleaners etc. but equally perfect for my big-girls more advanced craft supplies to allow some organisation to her desk. I appreciate the coloured design may seem young for some older children, but in terms of practical use it goes beyond the 7 years maximum age guide for sure.
We added some label stickers to each pot too to make it a little more fun and organised. I do worry what will happen when she inevitably knocks the entire thing over after forgetting to replace the lids!
This is a great solution to desk-top mess and worth investing in before school and the chaos re-starts. It makes a nice birthday gift alongside new art supplies too, or even a gift for a Teacher!
We really like this product, it’s both practical, fun and it looks fab. I would award this product 4 stars out of 5.
