There’s something irresistible about a Meat Loaf classic; that moment when the chorus hits and everyone around you can’t help but belt out the lyrics. So tonight we made our way to Lighthouse, Poole, to see Steve Steinman’s Anything For Love tour as it rock ’n’ rolled its way into town for the night, as part of the 2026 national tour.
Seated in the stalls of the Concert Hall, we had great seats, with a central view of all the action on the stage. The seats are comfy, with plenty of leg room, making it a comfortable evening’s viewing.
Steinman did something only a performer with absolute confidence would dare; he opened with Anything For Love itself. No warm up, no easing in, boom straight into one of the biggest anthems of Meat Loaf’s career! Setting the scene for a great evening featuring more than 25 tracks from the Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman back catalogue, plus the chance to hear Steve’s new single, originally written for Meat Loaf.
Having first brought Meat Loaf to life 35 years ago on Stars In Their Eyes, Steve Steinman has clearly spent decades perfecting a voice that sounds undeniably like the man himself. Yet, unlike most tribute shows, he doesn’t try to look like Meat Loaf (nor does he waft a red hankie), He’s not doing an impression, instead he’s recreating the feeling, the memories, the sheer theatricality of the music. What he delivers is a full‑blown spectacle, flanked by his ten‑piece ensemble, including Mark Alexander on piano, who played alongside Meat Loaf for an incredible 25 years.
There were plenty of standout moments and vocals from tonight’s show, but our favourite part was the full-length performance of Paradise By The Dashboard Light; theatrical brilliance and hilarious too. Steve and his crew certainly know how to put a on a show!
The whole ensemble had incredible chemistry and it was clear that everyone on stage was having the time of their lives, but we thoroughly enjoyed watching John Evans, one of Steve’s backing singers who was clearly having a ball, he was a pleasure to watch.
The lead female vocalist also deserves huge credit. We didn’t catch her name, but her voice was phenomenal and a perfect match for Steve. Together, they delivered some truly powerful moments.
The stage set matched the vocals perfectly, bringing fire, theatrics, a jukebox and even a car, bringing the performance alive.
Steve’s on stage presence, with a fantastic sense of humour had the audience laughing throughout the show, adding that extra edge, that made the show a joy to watch. He’s got it all, hugely personable and talented.
There was also a touching tribute to Bonnie Tyler, who sadly died recently, which seemed very fitting, with the tone of the show and her links to Jim Steinman.
We left the theatre feeling that Anything For Love isn’t just a tribute to Meat Loaf, it’s a celebration of one of rock’s most theatrical, larger than life performers, delivered in epic style. Steve Steinman gave us a night of nostalgia, powerful vocals, and laughter.
We would absolutely recommend the show, if you’re a Meat Loaf fan or are simply looking for an entertaining evening out. With tickets costing from £25, it’s a great value show for a high quality night of entertainment. Running just shy of 3 hours, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth. We’ll be returning next year for his Bat Out Of Hell 50th Anniversary Tour, that’s for sure!
