Leaf & Cane is a late-night Sports and Karaoke Bar near Blackfriars station. It serves cocktails, premium draught beers within a social and relaxed atmosphere. There is a food menu with burgers, snacks and small plates including nachos, wings, and sides if you get peckish to go with your drinks and they looked very good and plentiful. With live sports, free karaoke it’s set up for group gatherings but equally has outside area booths and seating which would be equally okay for couples preferring a more romantic setting.
This was quite a difficult review to do being it was a really quiet night for the bar so getting a real taste of the ambience and high-end party atmosphere just wasn’t there. On saying that the bar is beautifully decorated and definitely not your usual sports and entertainment bar. Either end of the bar is a large TV screen for the sport, and one end has a stage and karaoke stand.
On arrival we sat at a booth and looked at their extensive cocktail lists; they have two cocktail menus. One created for the bar which appeared very Mexican/ Cuban inspired. The other was your standard cocktail classics but if you don’t see a favourite the bar staff will make it for you. The staff were amazingly attentive and talked us through the cocktail list. They definitely do not hold back on the alcohol but whilst strong each cocktail was made with care and precision.
We started with their own cocktails. We had Monkey Business, Sacred Garden, Eternal Water, Guardians Of The Feld all tasted delicious and a real feel of South America and the Caribbean. We then went on to the classics, my favourite Porn Star Martini wasn’t on the menu nor was my husband’s favourite Mojito, but we were told whatever we wanted they would make for us which they did extremely well.
We arrived at about 9:30 pm and until 11pm there was motor racing on both screens which seemed out of place being there were only a handful of couples, young girls, and a group of friends. We saw a few couples pop in, get a drink and leave. Not sure if they were staying at the hotel or just didn’t feel that there was enough of an atmosphere for them. Despite being a Sports Bar, I personally think that more people would have stayed had they put a few music videos on. About 11:30pm I asked if we could have the karaoke on which they obliged immediately and whilst there wasn’t a huge crowd the party atmosphere was definitely coming together. At midnight we were told that the bar was closing early due to not enough people, which was understandable but disappointing.
I’d love to go back here when it’s busier so you can get a feel for the vibe.
