Interview with Milkshake! presenter Derek Moran

MilkshakeLiverpoolInterview by Debbie Talbot and Jenny Bennet

On Sunday (11 October) What’s Good To Do will be at the Epstein Theatre in Liverpool to see Millkshake! Live ‘Party Party’ which is currently on tour around the UK. We caught up with Derek Moran who is one of the presenters of the Channel 5 children’s television show, aimed at children between 2 and 7 years old, and who is also appearing in the live stage show. You can find out more about Milkshake at www.milkshake.tv.

How do you stay so chirpy in the mornings?
We have a very enthusiastic team working behind the scenes so that really helps. Plus viewers e-mail and tweet us throughout the show so that live interaction gives me a real buzz and of course, I love my job.

What is your favourite show on Milkshake?
Little Princess because she’s mischievous and she makes me laugh.

What do children ask you when they see you?
Are you the man from Milkshake or do you know the man from Milkshake.

What is your favourite part of this job?
I love the creative side. When we have an idea and turn it into a successful show, that’s very exciting.

At what age did you start your TV career?
I made my first TV appearance when I was 11 years old in Dublin on The Late Late Show.

What’s the best thing about doing the live show?
The instant reaction you receive from the audience. It’s completely different to talking to a camera.

What’s the funniest thing that has happened when you have been filming?
On one occasion, we went live unexpectedly when I wasn’t even sitting in the Milkshake studio chair!

Who are your favourite celebs?
I’m a massive fan of Florence and The Machine.

Any future projects?
Yes, we have lots of exciting things happening with Milkshake next year.

What advice would you give someone wanting to pursue a career as a TV Presenter?
Be yourself, try your best, work hard and good luck!

We would like to say a big thank you to Derek for taking the time to answer our questions and look forward to seeing him at the Epstein Theatre in Liverpool on 11 October 2015 with shows at 1pm and 3.30pm.

Tickets cost £11 for children, £13 for adults or £44 for a family.
