Frankie & Benny’s Salford Quays Review

Reviewed by Louisa Nashir

I was recently asked to go to Frankie and Benny’s in Salford Quays to sample their 2 course specials menu with drinks with my family and we all looked forward to it after looking through their menus online.

We chose Sunday 1st March 2015 and were booked in for 12.30pm, we made the short drive from our home in Eccles to the restaurant in Salford Quays and parked in the spacious carpark to the front of the eatery.

The restaurant itself is clean, spacious and has a fabulous atmosphere. We loved looking at the photographs hanging on the wall by our booth. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful which is important when working in the hospitality industry.

We were shown to our table which was a booth window table, this was well received by my 8 year old daughter and our drinks orders were taken whilst we looked at the impressive looking menu.

In no time at all the drink had arrived 2 kids cokes and 2 diet cokes and we gave our server our food order.

My husband chose the Mealtballs Italiano for starters, the children and I declined so our main order was taken at the same time.

I chose the Chicken Club Wrap, My husband chose the Cajun Chicken Melt and the girls chose the Spaghetti Bolognese Platter and the Margherita Pizza from the kids menus.

Soon enough my husband’s starter arrived and it was presented well and looked delicious with 2 good sized meatballs in a tomato based sauce flavoured with chilli and had garlic bread as a side dish. My husband really enjoyed his starter and said the chilli really gave the dish some heat which he loved.

Once he had finished his starter our mains were brought to us and all looked fantastic and the F&B crockery looked funky and modern as they were all shapes and sizes.

My Chicken Club Wrap came with chips and coleslaw and the wrap itself was cut in half and held together by a wooden skewer. It looked so good but lacked flavour in my opinion. For a club sandwich I did expect some seasoning but it was bland and in total honesty I wished I had picked a different meal.

My husband enjoyed his Cajun Chicken Melt which came with chips, corn on the cob and Cajun Mayo and the girls devoured their meals which looked yummy!

We ordered a side dish of onion rings and a garlic bread with cheese but these took a while to arrive on the table and were quite disappointing. The onion rings were very greasy and again lacked flavour and the girls weren’t keen on the garlic bread with cheese as it was so pale and floppy.

Once finished our server came over with the menus again and took the dessert orders, my husband and I declined and had a coffee each but the girls chose bananas and custard and Ice Cream Sundae which came in a knickerbocker glory glass with chocolate sauce and white chocolate buttons. The girls thoroughly enjoyed their puddings and their sweet tooth’s were satisfied.

I have visited several Frankie and Benny’s in the past as we loved the atmosphere of the restaurants and how welcoming and friendly the staff are and apart from my meal we did enjoy ourselves but I won’t be rushing back.

A lovely restaurant set in a fabulous location but unfortunately a few minor things let it down today.
