I sent this book to share at bedtime with my 9 year old son. I was dubious when the book arrived as to whether he would be interested as he would normally choose Quest books or Fighting Fantasy to read.
I need not have worried, he was more than happy to have a story read to him about a Royal dog, in the madness of life our bedtime read is our time and I was happy to share it with him.
The story is based on the real Royal dog Lupo, owned by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. They have a few mentions in the book but this is really an animal based adventure story. A story of legends of old, good versus evil (Vulcan the Queen’s dog) and friendship and love.
Lupo is moving to the Palace and Vulcan doesn’t like to share any limelight, so starts a plot to get rid of Lupo forever. The Royals love Lupo, the public love Lupo, he has to GO!
Lupo’s reputation is left in doubt, he has a very tight time to clear his name and solve the mystery of the crime he did not commit. Can he reveal the truth before he sent to The Tower of London for a dark future far from a pampered Royal pet? With a whole host of animals involved in the book the story shows a whole other life beneath the palaces and great cities they are in. Cities of mice, bats, foxes etc… in greatly decorated dimly lit corridors from the past.
Friendships formed between species, it is heart-warming read, we often went past lights out time because we kept reading. In all we both enjoyed the book and will continue to follow Lupo’s adventures in future books. In times of such horrible news a great feel good family story, that is all about a lovely dog… what could go wrong?
