Copthorne Hotel Sheffield Review

Reviewed by Rebecca Gillespie

We were lucky enough to be offered an overnight stay at the Copthorne Hotel in Sheffield, part of the Millennium Hotels group. The hotel is situated on Bramall Lane on the A621 very close to central Sheffield, about a 10 minute walk. Bramall Lane is also the home of Sheffield United football club, the hotel is adjacent to the football club. Sheffield offers many different attractions a lot that are short distances from the hotel.

On arrival there was a small car park for the hotel this was full, however down a ramp is the Sheffield United football club car park, we parked here and were told that it was fine to do that, but signage wasn’t clear about this. But because of this parking was ample. Something to take note of that didn’t affect us was that on match days the roads around the hotel close for an hour pre and post-match but if this would be an issue to you reception could advise you about alternative parking.

The entrance to the hotel is on the main road and very clear. All clean and clearly signed. We were welcomed on reception by Nicky who was extremely helpful and informative. We were given 2 keycards and free WiFi passwords. We went into the lift area and everything was clearly signed. Our room was on the first floor, looking out of the window on one side was the main Bramall Lane and the other window was a car park and shop so no great view but we wouldn’t expect that in a city centre hotel. We were worried about noise as we were only one floor up, but we needn’t have worried as it never disturbed us and we could barely hear the traffic.

The room was very inviting with a king-size bed with white bed linen, 4 pillows – 2 soft and 2 firm so hopefully would please everyone. The room had a large glass window which you could see the adjacent bathroom however there were also blinds that could be closed too. There was a desk with a fruit selection and an espresso machine and chairs to sit on too. The room had ample hanging space in the hall way with an iron and ironing board, 2 dressing gowns and 2 lots of slippers. A cupboard with coffee and tea tray – which had a great selection including earl grey tea, hot chocolate and decaf options too. There was a bag to use the laundry and dry-cleaning service and a sewing kit. A fridge with a selection of soft drinks and water in.

The bathroom had a huge bath central and with a view through the glass window, so you could actually watch tv whilst in the bath or have option to close the blind. There was a large sink area and a separate shower cubical and separate toilet room. Plenty of toilet roll was provided as was small amounts of soap, shampoo, body wash and body lotion.

The hotel has a bar 1855 Bar and a restaurant 18fifty5 restaurant. We had a drink in the bar and the bar staff were very helpful when helping choose a wine there was plenty of seating and was spacious, so you didn’t feel too close to others. The bar did get busy at times however the wait was never long and was never rushed. The bar offered snacks and sandwiches and a simple menu.

We booked a table on arrival for dinner in the restaurant, open from 6.30pm – 9.30pm. We were greeted by a very friendly lady server and sat at a 2 person table. The menu had a large selection of food ranging in price main courses averaging around £16. I ordered sea bass and my husband had steak, the food was amazing beautifully presented and delicious in taste. We then had dessert both of which again were amazing. The staff were very attentive and helpful and friendly and also left us alone to enjoy ourselves.

Breakfast was also served in the restaurant 6.30-10am Mon to Fri, and 7.30-10.3 Sat and Sun.

There was a huge selection for breakfast fruit – many varieties including melon, pineapple, grapefruit, mixed fruit, dates.

Cereals all the usual including granola and mix your own muesli options. Cooked breakfast with sausage, bacon, hash browns, fried eggs and scrambled egg (other eggs available to order), tomato, beans and mushrooms. Bread selection and toaster and variety of pastries. Something for everyone and excellent selection and everything fresh and to a high standard both visually and taste wise. We were full for the day!

The hotel offers various conference rooms and business services. They have a fitness room and health suite. The hotel was clean throughout and the staff everywhere were friendly and very helpful if needed anything.

I would highly recommend a stay at the Copthorne Hotel in Sheffield, excellent food and a very comfy stay, offering everything you could need.
