People say that no one can stop the sands of time. It’s true. Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do to stop those miniscule grains from descending. However, let’s ask, with the right care and attention, is it possible to slow the effect time has on our bodies, especially our skin?
I have used a few men’s skincare products before. Usually basic moisturisers when my skin felt dry. But I can’t claim to have used them regularly enough for it to be called anything close to a regime. Therefore, when asked to review the Essential Men’s Collection from Slow Aging Essentials, I was intrigued.
Before talking about the individual products, let’s consider a little about the company.
David Lieber, alongside his wife Margot, founded the British brand Slow Ageing Essentials. David is a pioneer in the beauty industry, and Magot is a Natural Chef who uses naturopathic nutritional techniques to promote wellbeing; besides this she is a yoga teacher.
Their website shows their belief that there is no miracle cure for the natural aging process of the skin, but they believe it’s possible to slow down the effects. As with most things, it’s all about balance, and how you look after yourself as a whole; your physical and mental health are paramount.
The keys are keeping hydrated, eating simply, exercising daily, maintaining healthy sleep patterns, and conducting a regular wellbeing regime.
The correct wellbeing regime will help you relax and unwind, it can help ease stress levels. This will have a benefit to the condition of your skin.
Let’s have a look at the products. I’ve listed these in the order you should follow in your daily routine.
Essential Face Wash (50ml)
It’s recommended to use this in the morning and evening. Only a small amount is required. It feels rich and luxurious, and does not have an overbearing scent. It eliminates the unavoidable nasties and pollution collected throughout the day. Even without using the other products in the routine, I can feel it stimulating the skin. Time will tell whether it slows the signs of skin ageing, but it certainly felt lovely.
Essential Facial Essence (20ml)
You massage a miniscule amount of this essence into your skin in the morning and at night. This product has many benefits, such as nourishing your skin with nutrients, enhancing suppleness, and aiding in the penetration of moisturiser (which is the next step in the routine).
Essential Moisturiser (50ml)
The instructions recommended using this every morning. It boosts the skin’s natural defences, decreases moisture loss, and (most importantly for me) moisturises the skin. In addition, it boosts the effect of the previously applied Facial Essence. Without doubt, it really felt like a bit of luxury.
Essential Face Balm (5ml)
It’s only recommended using this product one to three times a week. You use it after using the Essential Face Wash and applying Essential Facial Essence. Warm it slightly in your hand, and massage into the skin. I didn’t try this, but you can also use it as a slow booster by mixing it with a few drops of the Essential Facial Essence. This creates a nourishing treatment mask.
Conclusions
I will admit when I first received this collection I thought the price was eye-wateringly expensive. However, after discussing with friends and researching spa beauty products online, I can see that it is competitively priced, and it was simply my lack of understanding.
Would I regularly use these products? Undoubtedly, yes.
Have they halted the effect of skin aging? That’s way too early to tell.
Have they made me feel good? Again, there’s no question about it, a resounding yes, and nobody can really measure the benefit of making yourself feel good.
Would I purchase this as a gift to someone? This is trickier to answer. Because of the price, it’s not one to buy on a whim. But if the person you are considering gifting it to fully appreciates these kinds of beauty products or, like myself, has used something cheaper in the past, then it’s a definite yes.
