My sons (aged 9 and 6) were both excited when the tube containing the Glow in the Dark World Map from Maps International arrived at our house. It was particularly good timing as it coincided with global learning week at their school where they have both been learning about different countries around the world, the oldest has been learning about Zambia and the youngest has just been on a virtual school trip to Antartica!

Having carefully unrolled the map we were really impressed with the size and quality of it. The map is A1 sized (which is 83.5cm x 59cm) and printed on good quality glossy paper. The map is very colourful with the countries printed in lots of different colours. For each country the capital cities are shown clearly and marked with stars. The map also shows other key cities in the countries, along with mountain ranges and other important map markers i.e. the equator and date lines. We have put the map up in the boys’ bedroom and they have really enjoyed looking at it to find all the countries we have visited on our holidays and the countries they have been learning about at school. They have also found where my aunty lives in Australia!

The map looks really impressive on their wall by day, but when the lights go off it is even more exciting as the map glows in the dark. We have loved turning the lights off and looking at all the country outlines and the stars of the Capital Cities. There are also lots of different creatures which appear and we have loved spotting these, there are whales, seals, penguins, a polar bear, fish to name but a few. There is also a strange figure near to Greenland who we haven’t quite worked out but we thought that maybe it’s Father Christmas! The map has also been great as my youngest son, who usually likes to sleep with the light on as he is a bit wary of the dark, has asked us to turn the light off when he goes to bed so he can look at the map. It really is a lovely idea and we are really happy with it.

Having looked at the Maps International Website I can see that they do many different types of maps for both adults and children. We are really tempted by both the glow in the dark star map and the mythical monsters glow in the dark map. They also have a range of scratch off maps which are a really great idea too and I know my sons would love to be able to scratch off the countries which we have visited on our holidays.

Overall, I am really impressed with this Glow in the Dark World Map and would highly recommend it to anyone.
