Well what a fantastic opportunity to review such a wonderful gift! How I would love to receive one of these vouchers and with Christmas fast approaching maybe I’ve been good enough (crosses fingers!)
The voucher from www.buyagift.co.uk arrived in the form of an email therefore not only making it easy to use and not lose but also perfect for those last minute ‘doh’ i’ve forgotten to buy that gift for someone special. It could just as easily be printed out and popped in an envelope as it could be sent straight to the lucky recipients email address.
The premise is simple you chose what you would like to gift, in this case a 2 night country and rural escape for two, and let the lucky recipient chose where and when they wish to go, this has two major benefits in my mind, the first being that the recipient can chose the location and date of their stay and the second being that there is no hassle for the person buying the gift as to trying to coordinate diaries and perhaps childcare etc…
On receipt of the voucher I logged on through the website and was asked to enter the unique code and pin, this enabled me to view all the hotel options, this could also be viewed by Activity i.e. spa, County and or Region, for someone with very little geography this was an added bonus. Hotels were located across the UK (74 locations available) so there seemed to be a variety in each region so the travel time could be decided on. With the aid of good old Google Maps I was able to find 6 possible locations that we wished to stay in – some may say spoilt for choice.
In order to book the hotel it was necessary to call the venue directly to discuss availability and options, not all of the hotels offer the option to use the voucher at weekends but this is clearly stated on the buyagift website so there should be no confusion when it comes to speaking with the hotel.
Once the accommodation is booked all future correspondence is with the hotel not through buyagift. I found the process of booking and choosing the accommodation both easy and fun and would happily both use and recommend their website for buying gifts for others and perhaps even myself.
We chose to stay at the Wild Pheasant Hotel in Llangollen in North Wales (www.wildpheasanthotel.co.uk). The Vale of Llangollen is described being in the very heart of beautiful North Wales. With more sunshine than the Lake District and less rain than Cornwall North Wales is the ideal place to visit at any time of the year.
The hotel has 46 ensuite bedrooms which are doubles or twins along with a number of suites that can be upgraded to.
We arrived late on the Friday night and despite this late arrival we were warmly greeted by the front of house staff in a clean and modern reception area, breakfast times were explained and we were asked if we wish to book a table for dinner for the next night. After rapidly putting our bags in the room that was located on the ground floor we made our way to the bar for a restorative G&T – its hard work being a passenger! The bar staff were friendly and knowledgeable and despite our late arrival were happy to serve us.
The room itself was a very spacious room and was spotlessly clean – the bed a double was beautifully made and the towels were of a useful size – all too often do hotels provide small bath towels which can be a bit of a frustration but I’m happy to say that these weren’t – it really is the little things that count! The room was tired and not one that had been refurbished but immaculately clean – not a speck of dust to be found and felt light and airy.
Breakfast on the first morning was an absolute treat – table service with friendly staff and a fantastic menu to chose from – admittedly we opted for the full welsh with a slight amendment from both sides and were suitably pleased with what was presented, along with the full cooked welsh breakfast was served a choice of hot drinks, juices and the option of pastries and cereals. The staff at breakfast were both friendly and efficient nothing felt like too much trouble,
After a lovely day out in the surrounding area we returned to the hotel for what can only be described as the most magnificent dinner – the food was sublime and the staff again faultless they remembered little touches from when we had our breakfast and were attentive but not intrusive.
Breakfast on the Sunday morning was a slightly busier affair with the food laid out as a buffet rather than cooked to order, it again was delicious and the service impeccable.
I would thoroughly recommend the Wild Pheasant Hotel for a break for friends or couples the hotel was cosy yet spacious and spotlessly clean, the staff were faultless and the food delicious.
The whole experience from the Buyagift website, booking and the hotel was wonderful and hassle free.
