The mini kit came in it’s own box envelope made of card with a picture of the honeybee you are building on the front with the size of the wingspan of this built honey bee (27cm). The front also informs you that the wings can flap up and down and there are 20 pieces to make this honey bee. The other facts on the front are that it takes 20 minutes to build, is fairly easy to do and suitable for anyone aged 8 and over.  The back of the envelope shows there are 5 press out sheets and a honey bee fact sheet inside and you can even use a QR code for the instructions. That is a clever idea.  I also liked the fact that no plastic is used; it is all made from sustainable card and paper.

As you unfold the envelope, you find pictures of other mini build kits such as a ladybird, a dragon fly and a stag beetle so you can build a range of insects plus the press out honey bee fact sheet. This fact sheet informs you of the important role of the honey bee; it’s actual size; what honey bees eat as well their habitat plus their scientific name and why it is called that.  Definitively an educational fact sheet.  In the middle of the envelope, there are 5 cut out sheets and instructions.  The instructions are very easy to read, step by step instructions with pictures.  The pieces need to be pressed out of the card sheets and are very sturdy so the honey bee model can stand up easily with its silver delicate wings.  If you have difficulty pressing out the shapes, it does come with a removal tool to help.  The wings have a tab which if you pull up and down create the flapping wings. I timed myself doing this kit and managed to build the honey bee following their instructions in just under 20 minutes.   What is great about this kit is that no glue; or scissors are needed so it is not messy and it is fun to do as you see the honey bee take shape in front of your eyes as you gradually build the bee. There is also enclosed in the envelope an information sheet on what else you can build apart from mini build kits and these kits range from 32 pieces if you wish to build a telescope to 153 pieces if you want to make a marble run.

Would I recommend this product?  Yes as it is certainly an informative and a fun way of learning about an important insect.  Also great for budding, creative, inquisitive children to awaken their interest in science, technology, engineering and maths. It is a reasonable price and looks great.  If you buy all four mini kits on their website there is a 15% discount so presents for all the family.  An ideal Christmas or birthday gift.

I would certainly recommend it for the educational toy award and as a gift for children.  However, it could also be a nice gift for a bee keeper or someone interested in nature.
