Doing the school lunch can be a real chore; having to think up interesting things to give the children for lunch that they’ll actually eat and packing it up so that it doesn’t get squashed or spilled. Not to mention the clean-up from the previous day – which has got to be the least favourite parent job of all time! If you’re like us, you’ve probably tried every variation of a lunchbox going. We have a drawer full of boxes, costing many pounds, that didn’t meet expectations or just didn’t meet the basic requirements for some reason. So to get the chance to try the B.Box Lunchbox was a challenge that we were well and truly up for.
The arrival of this simple little lunchbox caused a lot of excitement for my 9 year old – who herself has been on this same journey of exploration and ultimately frustration with said lunchboxes. There is something about the different compartments in a plastic box that can get a child really excited and stir up the imagination. I was quite impressed when I explored the box further not only are there a number of compartments that food can be separated into, but there is an adjustable compartment that can be used in its full length or broken down into two smaller compartments of the size of your choosing.
In addition, 3 of the compartments have a rubber lid that will seal around them once shut, making them spill-proof. This is for food such as yogurt or hummus – essential for preventing full lunchbox sogginess! The rubber seal can then be removed for easy wash up and drying to make cleaning much easier and prevent any mouldy problems. The biggest compartment is for a sandwich and whilst it’s a tad small for a full slice of bread – having to cut off a few millimetres at the edge was no major issue for me – it also has an additional compartment underneath, containing an ice pack that will keep the compartment cool in summer without contacting the food directly. And if it’s not summer? The extra section can be removed! Although we found it very handy to put a biscuit snack into that she could access once the sandwich had been eaten – there’s free mum hack for you!
The icing on the cake for my daughter especially, was the handle not only is this a lunch box but it’s also a carry box so you don’t need to pack it into an additional bag to carry it around. My daughter loved this and ditched the lunch bag. She enjoys carrying it to school on its own. My Mummy’s brain imagined scenarios where she didn’t close the box properly before picking it up resulting in the contents bursting out everywhere, but so far so good. She’s very aware to close the box before lifting it.
This box is on the pricey side at £19.99. I wouldn’t usually choose to pay this much for a lunchbox (due to the aforementioned pounds spent and disappointment) however, now that I have experienced it, I can see the real value of the box. It’s hard wearing and we will probably get years of use out of it. With this in mind I would now happily make that investment as I have spent a lot more over the years trying to find a functional and useful lunch box – that’s never lived up to standards.
My daughter loves the box I love the box. It gives lots of possibilities for packing cold food and keeping it fresh. They come in a range of colours that appeal to children and make lunchtime exciting. We both give it 5/5 stars for functionality, style and ease of use.
