Aldi Specialbuys Ladies Structured Fleece Review

I was sent this fleece to review as part of the Aldi Specialbuys outdoor range. It arrived in its own sealed packaging with an inner cardboard sleeve with all the details on.

The colour I received is a grey marl with dark pink detailed edging. It is a fleece you pull over your head that has a zip top neck. It also has zip up, edged pockets.

The fleece felt quite thin when I first unpacked it but, once wearing it, felt as warm as other fleeces I have that are thicker. We’ve had some unseasonably warm weather for the last few days but today has been much chillier and this fleece stood the ‘school run’ test as being cosy and wind proof while I was waiting around. It has a super soft inner that surprised me compared to the outer which isn’t rough but isn’t super soft like the inside either. The insides of the pockets are also very soft and feel lovely when you put your hands in your pockets. I also liked that the zip opening by the neck is covered so the zip won’t irritate your neck even when it is fully done up.

I am a size 12-14 and I was sent the medium, which is also 12-14. It fitted me perfectly. It is a shaped fleece and fits in the right places without being too clingy. I was also quite impressed that the sleeves and body were long enough. I’m 5’9 and sometimes find that long sleeve tops and/or the length of the body on tops can be a little short.

This fleece costs £9.99 so is at the lower end of the market for this kind of fleece. However, I was impressed by the quality and feel of it and certainly wouldn’t have known the price had I not been given it.

Picking fault, I must admit that I had no idea what a ‘YKK neck zip’ is, which is one of the descriptions on the packaging! (I looked it up and apparently it is the make of zip. I’m not sure that many other people would either know this or buy this item because of it though…). It’s also only designed to be washed at 30 degrees without fabric softener. I wash most of my clothes at 30, so that side wasn’t an issue, but I do normally use fabric softener.

All in all, this is a great fleece with the bonus of being a low budget one. I would recommend it to anyone looking for this kind of item.
