The 24-hour Polo Bar is set on the main road just opposite Liverpool Street Station in London. It’s an ideal location to attract passing commuters, tourists and late night revellers.

Once inside, first impressions were good. The décor reminds me of an old English café, with its white tiles and brickwork walls. The layout was booths and a few tables. The place was particularly clean and had a good atmosphere.

Although only a small café, with probably room to sit 20-25 people, there was also a downstairs area to accommodate more and also the toilets. We sat in a booth, which gave just enough privacy from the people in the next booth, but yet didn’t completely seclude you from the hustle and bustle going on around.

Tad and his staff were friendly and courteous at all times and made us feel very welcome.

The main features on the menu were typical English breakfasts, although pies, omelettes, sandwiches, burgers and carvery were also available, as well as a small range of puddings. The café has a 24 hour alcohol licence and offers a range of alcoholic drinks and various teas, coffees, milkshakes and soft drinks.

I enquired about the carvery but was told this wasn’t available that particular day. I asked if anything else from the menu wasn’t available, to be told the knickerbocker glory was also unavailable. Shame as I had my eye on that!

My guest and I ordered an omelette meal, fishfinger sandwich, a selection of sides, some wine, coffee & a green tea. I have to say the portions were large; the food was tasty and cooked well and arrived in a timely fashion.

We particularly liked the attention to detail, such as the green tea being made with leaves in a pot and having a tea strainer; and the small bottle of milk, (reminding me of my schooldays) for my coffee.

The café had a steady stream of customers throughout our visit and seemed a really nice place to chill out with friends.

Overall, we enjoyed our evening and would definitely go back again. I think it’s a great place to pop in, perhaps at the end of a night out in town, for a snack/early breakfast or that ‘one last drink’…. after all, it’s open 24 hours!

I think its good value for money and would rate it 4.5/5.
