If most children have ants in their pants mine has special unit commando ants in his. It is then some kind of magic that the Catherine Wheels Theatre Company weave with this production, as he sat in awestruck wonderment for the full 40 minute show. He was not alone, as in a room full of toddlers not one bottom left its seat until invited to do so. Specifically created for two to four year olds this is a spellbinding early lesson in the beauty of diversity. It is not hard to see why ‘White’ has had so much critical acclaim, it is utterly brilliant.

The plot is surreal but simple enough to keep young minds fully engaged. Just two characters ‘Cotton’ and ‘Wrinkle’ tend to a world where everything is white, awaiting the arrival of white eggs to look after. All is well until a red egg arrives and the world begins to explode with colour. The set is also simple but with huge attention to detail there is lots to look at along with some clever lighting and a little bit of trickery to keep things interesting. Cotton and Wrinkle themselves are very appealing characters, at the end of the show there is the chance to interact and my two year old had no qualms about running to Winkle for a chat.

Quite simply if you have a two to four year old and get the chance to see this fantastic production take it!
