What To Expect When You’re Expecting is a comedy following the lives of several families and the stresses and strains of pregnancy. Based on the best selling book of he same name.
TV fitness guru Jules (Cameron Diaz) meets Evan (Matthew Morrison) on a dance show when they are paired together for the show. They soon start seeing each other and soon find out they are pregnant. Holly (Jennifer Lopez) is a photographer and desperately wants a baby but cannot have one so decides to adopt a baby from Africa even though her partner Alex is not keen on the idea and joins a dad’s group called ‘The Dudes Group”. Wendy (Elizabeth Banks) is an advocate who tells other mums how to bring up their children even though she has none herself but soon gets a taste of her own medicine when she falls pregnant.
Overall, I found this to be an OK film but hilarious as billed. With big name stars and comedians maybe I expected too much, especially from Chris Rock who I thought was a big let-down and could have done so much more with his role. Dennis Quaid, for me, provided the most laughs.
While it is a comedy about the ups and downs of pregnancy and having children it is probably funnier from a woman’s point of view as if they have had children they will relate to some of things happening and it did include view points from the man's side as well with the inclusion of The Dudes Group. That said it was still an enjoyable film with some laughs, I think I just expected a lot more from Chris Rock and ‘The Dudes Group’.
