Haatchi and Little B by Wendy Holden Review

I have never read a Wendy Holden book before, but as I knew the story was about a rescue dog and a young boy I was looking forward to starting it. I didn’t want to put it down!

This is a true story about the friendship between a little boy called Owen ‘Little B’ and an Anatolian Shepherd called Haatchi.

Haatchi is found dumped on the railway line and is severely injured as he is hit by a train. He needs some serious love and attention.

Owen has been diagnosed with Schwartz-Jampel syndrome. He struggles to walk without support and is not growing at the same rate as his peers, often feeling like the odd one out. Owen was becoming more and more shy and retracting into himself.

This book tells the story of how Owen and Haatchi meet and how their lives change with the support of each other. It is a heart-warming tale of 2 friends, that had me welling up with tears of sadness but more often tears of joy. It was a very easy to read book. It would be suitable for children of say 10 plus. It also makes a great read for adults.

I would highly recommend this book to others and will be on the lookout for more Wendy Holden books.
