Thursday Plantation Tea Tree & Manuka Honey Balm Review

Reviewed by Melody Floyde
I was pleased to be sent a tube of Thursday Plantation Tea Tree & Manuka Honey Balm to review. Having used pure tea tree oil for many years for spots and blemishes, I was interested to see what the benefits would be of combining it with Manuka Honey, which I have heard also has healing properties.
The balm comes in a plastic tube with a plastic screw top lid which holds 30mg of the balm. This retails for around £10. The packaging is attractive and it looks like a quality product. I really like the gold honeycomb touches to the design. The information on the back of the tube tells me that the balm will “help to protect the skin against pollution and bacteria by reinforcing the skin’s natural barrier”.
From a bit of further investigation on the internet I can see that the balm is marketed as a Triple Antiseptic solution for wound protection and the relief of minor skin damage, inflammation, minor wounds, cuts and abrasion. As a mum of two young boys I am always covering them in antiseptic cream on their many bumps and grazes so this sounded perfect and I anticipated having several opportunities to put the balm to the test – I wasn’t wrong!
Step in son number one who, after crawling through brambles at Beavers, had some deep scratches to his leg. I have been applying the balm to the scratches for the last couple of days and am really impressed with how well they are healing already. He did find that initially the skin made his leg tingle, but this didn’t seem to be causing him any discomfort. From rubbing the balm into my own skin, I find the tingle quite nice and refreshing and it makes me feel like it is doing good!
Number two son has also come home with a few scrapes from nursery so I have been able to use him as a tester too and am equally as impressed at how his grazes are healing after applying the balm. He wasn’t quite so keen on the “tingly” feeling but it didn’t bother him for long and he hasn’t minded me putting it on again.
The balm is a lovely and light consistency, it is very easy to rub into the skin and quickly disappears. Although it is only a small tube I have found that a little balm goes a long way so I anticipate that the tube will last me for several months. The packaging tells me that it needs to be discarded after six months once opened. The smell of the balm is predominantly tea tree oil so you may not want to apply the cream just before going out as it is quite a strong smell, but I find tea tree is a lovely clean smell so it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I assume that the manuka honey is a more delicate smell so isn’t noticeable once mixed with the tea tree oil.
As the tube is nice and small I have decided that I am going to keep it in my handbag with the first aid kit so I always have it to hand when we are out and about.
Overall, I am really impressed with the Thursday Plantation Tea Tree & Manuka Honey Balm and would definitely recommend it as a natural alternative to antiseptic cream. I will be buying another tube once this one runs out.
