The Home-Sewn Home by Vanessa Arbuthnott and Gail Abbott Review

Reviewed by Michelle Wright

50 step by step ideas to add fabrics and soft furnishings to your home… if you want to follow in the current trend of getting your own sewing machine out and personalising your home, this book is a fabulous starting point.

From curtains to shades to cushions this book will give you not only all the inspiration you need but easy to follow step by step guides…

The first few pages are entitled ‘inspirations’ and I found these really helpful… They are mood boards of topics such as seaside and nature, and they show how groupings of colours and patterned fabrics can work together in a theme.

The book has beautifully propped photography of all the finished items and then step-by-step illustrations which accompany the instructions. It’s very well produced and is laid out in a clear and attractive manner. The projects included are for all abilities from a simple table runner for a novice sewer to more complex projects such as lined curtains… Great for an intermediate such as myself!

I would really recommend this book, it makes projects that I once would have thought daunting not so scary!
