The Massage Company, Tunbridge Wells Review

THIS EXPERIENCE WAS GIFTED TO THE REVIEWER FOR THE PURPOSES OF WRITING THE REVIEW.

Yesterday I had the best massage ever!

It was an utter treat to be asked to review The Massage Company, Tunbridge Wells, as I really was in need of a massage for my aching muscles.

Getting to the centre was very easy. The County car park has a pedestrian exit just across the road and parking was £1.80 (Card only). I walked straight into the airy lobby, with comfy sofas and armchairs, where I was welcomed by the very friendly receptionist. I was asked for my booking details and given a new client form to complete. This was very thorough and what I particularly liked was the opportunity to identify just what sort of massage I wanted, in terms of pressure and also what areas of the body I wanted the massage to focus on.

As part of the pre-booking I had already selected the type of massage from the selection of Deep Tissue; Sports; Swedish or Maternity. I had chosen a classic Swedish Massage. My reasoning was that as I had had Swedish massages previously then this would be a good opportunity for comparison. But honestly there was no comparison. The massage I had was from a highly skilled practitioner and far more professional than any I had had in the past. I have been to a range of spas; beauty therapists and physiotherapists for massages- so whilst I would not say I am an expert I do feel able to give a fair assessment.

Having completed the forms I was introduced to XXXXXX (editor’s note – name removed), who would be doing my massage, and we went to one of the treatment rooms, where XXXXXX (editor’s note – name removed) discussed my form and what I wanted. At this point she suggested that the aromatherapy oil for tension and hot stones treatment would be of particular help to my achy muscles, especially as I hadn’t had a massage since pre-Covid. There is a choice of the aromatherapy oil and I was given a menu to choose from. These are two of 4 potential upgrades. The other two being a “fantastic foot treatment” and a scalp massage. Upgrades have an extra cost attached to them.

(As an aside- from a Covid-19 safety perspective, there is the opportunity to hand sanitise at the entrance and all massage staff were wearing face masks and clients are encouraged to wear one too.)

I was definitely pleased to have chosen both of the upgrades as the combination really helped my muscles warm up and relax which meant that I really felt rested after the massage. I didn’t know what the hot stone treatment would entail- I thought the hot stones would be laid up my spine to warm up certain points but in fact XXXXXX (editor’s note – name removed) used them in her hands to push deep into the muscles and the warmth they added was great.

What I was impressed with was the systematic and consistent approach to the massage. Massage is an intimate and personal experience and I felt that I was in safe hands, literally. I learned from XXXXXX (editor’s note – name removed) that whichever person I booked for a massage I would get exactly the same level of professionalism and skill as they all receive the same certified training. This consistency is what will make The Massage Company a great success.

The Massage Company is the brainchild of Charlie Thompson and Elliot Walker, who opened their first centre in Camberley in 2016. In addition, they now have centres in High Wycombe, Sutton Coldfield, Putney, and the one I visited in Tunbridge Wells. Their vision is for people to benefit from regular massage; to make it routine – from once in-a-blue moon to once a month; and to change people’s understanding of the positive effects regular massage can have on different aspects of their life. They state that their vision is simple: to bring high-quality massage to the mainstream.

They want people to see massage as good value for money, so it can become a vital and routine part of a better and balanced quality of life. Their model is one that encourages monthly membership- it is an interesting concept and one that is not yet fully embraced in the UK however watch this space as I think I have experienced an idea for the future.
From a mental and physical wellbeing perspective this may be far better for you than your regular visit to the hairdresser so I would say to you- Go! See what you’re missing out on.
