I attended the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton on Wednesday 16th July 2014 to see Disney’s The Lion King show.

The theatre was easy to find and had a lot of car parking facilities, from a multi-storey car park situated behind the theatre to on street parking. I parked at Southampton civic centre which is 5 minutes away from the theatre, I paid £2 to park from 6-12 pm.

The Mayflower Theatre was opened in 1928 and still has a lot of its original beautiful features and inside and out, it caters for all ages and abilities.

The facilities include Footlights bar which also sells lite bites, a gift shop and you can buy snacks, drinks, ice creams and programmes from the foyer.

The staff at the Mayflower theatre were, informative, professional and very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. The facilities are clean and well maintained and the tiered seating offers great views of the stage, you can also buy balcony and box seats.

I had goosebumps from the start of the show and was not expecting the characters to walk towards the stage down the aisle on the opening number so got to see the full colour and splendour close up.

The Lion King is set in the Serengeti in Africa and if you don’t know the story is about Simba (the lion) and his journey to reclaim his kingdom and become king of the jungle.

I was amazed at the actor’s use of puppetry to convey the characters in the show and thought the acting, singing, scenery, costumes, acoustics and lighting were of the highest standard.

My favourite characters in the show were Rafiki who was funny and very talented and the young Simba and Nala who played their roles brilliantly considering their young ages.

The Lion King is the best show I have ever seen it was spectacular, funny, moving and true to the film, it can be enjoyed by both adults and children although the show is not suitable for children under 6.

I would highly recommend the Mayflower Theatre 5/5 and Top marks for the show 5/5 a must see but tickets sell out quickly.
