Iggety ziggety zaggety zoom! The witch and her cat are travelling on their broomstick when they pick up a friendly dog, a beautiful green bird and a frantic frog. But the broomstick isn’t meant for five and it snaps in half – just as the hungry dragon appears! How will it all end?!

Many of you will know this much loved story – ‘Room on the Broom’, and next year I’m so excited to take my two boys, aged 6 and 9, to see it at Poole Lighthouse. We’ve read this story so many times over the years (as well as most other Julia Donaldson books), that we feel like we know the characters well already – so the idea of watching them step off the page and onto the stage is something we are all excited about! We’ve had several conversations already about how they might achieve this and if there will be a real flying broom!

I’m expecting a show that’s full of imagination and colourful costumes and simple but captivating scenery – the kind of theatre that keeps children on the edge of their seats and having fun. I have seen Tall Stories productions before, and they always seem to bring the stories to life in a playful and clever way.

Even though we haven’t seen it yet, I’m expecting an hour of fun, colour and, let’s face it, a bit of drama! Mostly, I’m looking forward to sharing something magical with the boys as they see one of their favourite stories come to life, and I’m sure it will be something we will be talking about all the way home and remember for a long time after.
