Play Shed Puzzles – eco-friendly jigsaw puzzles for children

Our five year old loves doing a jigsaw, she gets such and sense of pride over each piece she fits in and there is great satisfaction when the whole puzzle in completed.  We do encourage her to make up the puzzle herself but sometimes she asks for all the family to join in and it’s good to see us all working together.  This kind of play is so good for brain development as it involves logic and creativity.

This main focus of this puzzle is a beautiful picture of every little girls favourite, a unicorn with a colourful rainbow mane and tail, there is also a large rainbow in the background along with other images popular with children, cupcakes, ice cream, flowers, stars, hearts, butterflies and a great big iced doughnut.  All the images are brightly coloured and have a sharp defined outline which makes it easier for a child to match up the pieces.

This is a 48 piece puzzle suitable for ages four and above, when completed it measures 42cm x 29.7cm this is a perfect size for our five year old, not so difficult that she lost interest, and not so easy that there was no challenge. The pieces are a good thickness they can withstand a bit of rough handling without getting damaged, the protruding shapes do not bend when trying to fit into the wrong place and the picture does not peel off.  The box is very sturdy too and will not easily tear at the corners, these are all faults I have found with cheaper jigsaws.  A jigsaw is a toy that will be played with over and over again and may even be passed on to younger siblings or friends so I think it is worth paying a bit more to get a better quality product that will stand up to lots of handling.

The box like the jigsaw is predominantly purple, a picture of the made up jigsaw appears on the front of the box and is also on a foldout sheet inside the box with the puzzle pieces.

Hand made in Britain with 100% recycled board, using chlorine free paper and vegan inks, this puzzle is brought to you by ‘Play Shed Puzzles” a small business in Manchester run by mother of two Jaqueline Buckland.

There are currently a total of six designs available from the online shop. Unicorn Magic, Fire Engine, Jungle, Space Explorer, Festive Fun which is a Christmas Scene and a Mermaids Tale.  They are all the same size and all priced at £15 to celebrate black history month.  The Mermaids Tale puzzle is reduced by 10% until the end of October.

A great Christmas gift for children that is made to last and will keep them away from the screens for a while the puzzles are available from playshedpuzzles.co.uk here
