Wild Nature 2024 Diary Review

Reviewed by Jo Hardy

I couldn’t function without my diary, there are many other ways to store information electronically, my smart phone helps me with lots of things, it has replaced my camera but it will never replace my diary.  I like writing things in my diary and taking time to reflect on the things that happened last week and looking at the things I have planned for next week.  It has been proven scientifically that you are more likely to remember things if you write them down. When I meet up with my friends for coffee before we say goodbye we all get our diaries out and plan our next get together.

The renowned photographer John Beatty has joined forces with the John Muir Trust to produce this diary.  It contains sixty high quality silk finish images that truly represent wild nature the images cover the length of the United Kingdom from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland to the South Coast.  All the photographers who have contributed to the diary are featured towards the back of the diary with a small bio of each one.  The cover image by Mike Prince is a very atmospheric picture of early morning mist near Skelwith Bridge in Cumbria.  Each picture has a few lines of text to explain the scene and a shadow map that pinpoints the area the photograph was taken.  The diary contains so many beautiful pictures it is difficult to choose a favourite, if I was pressed I would go for the cover image as it is from an area I am very familiar with.

The John Muir trust is a membership conservation charity, they work throughout the country to restore and protect wild spaces for the benefit of everyone.  More can be read about the trust and where they are working in the diary and if you feel like this is something you would like to be involved with there are details and a membership form, a special code printed in the diary will give you 25% of your first year’s membership.

The diary is in a very clear one week per page format with a full colour picture for each week, there is plenty of space to write in on each day of the year, the last month of the year is followed by a two page year planner for 2025.  This is so handy for the times you get appointments before you have started to use next years diary.  Also at the very back of the dairy there are two blank lined pages for notes.  Bank holidays and moon phases are highlighted throughout the year.  At 205mm x 192mm it is a good size for a desk diary, the wire, spiral spine allows it to open flat on a table or to open a full 360 degrees.  I know that this diary will remain on our table throughout the year and allow us to keep track of what we have planned each week.

The diary can be purchased from the price is £16.50 with a postage cost of £3.50 there is a 10% discount for multiple purchases.

This would be a perfect gift for a man or woman with a busy working life, a retired person with a busy social life or anyone with a love of nature.
