The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time at King’s Theatre Review

Based on the novel by Mark Haddon, the production tells the story of an autistic boy’s investigation into who killed his neighbour’s dog. Christopher is an incredibly intelligent fifteen year old who struggles socially, and through his investigation exposes some shocking truths. Not having read the book I was in for an evening of real entertainment as the story unfolded.
Joshua Jenkins who plays Christopher was fantastic. He was completely believable and enchanting as the young boy who finds “people confusing”. He really brought the character and story alive, allowing the audience to get into his head and understand his behaviour and thoughts.
The supporting cast were also extremely talented, and together told Christopher’s story – through his eyes – so wonderfully. I instantly warmed to Geraldine Alexander in particular who portrayed the part of Christopher’s patient teacher perfectly.
The stage setting was completely original, and like nothing I have seen before. It was contemporary, appearing simple but yet was extremely sophisticated and well thought out. It provided the perfect setting to tell Christopher’s story and make the production captivating from beginning to end.
The King’s Theatre is a traditional small and beautiful theatre with a warm atmosphere and ambiance. It is very comfortable and clean with helpful, friendly and polite staff and has a great modern bar. Our seats were in the grand circle which provided an excellent view. The theatre is in the heart of Glasgow City Centre, so easily accessible by public transport and has parking available around the theatre.
I thoroughly enjoyed my evening at the King’s Theatre and couldn’t recommend this production more. This is one of the best shows I have seen, and would give it a fantastic, must see.
