Original Christmas gifts for those who love gardening or those who like to keep their car sparkling at home can be hard to come by with the go to gifts of gardening gloves or a chamois leather getting repetitive, so what other choices are there?
The perfect gift for either, young or old, is the QWICK Hose Starter Set. Made in the UK QWICK Hose is a new & innovative hose connector that means you don’t get soaking wet when your old connector fails and pops off! I looked at the website before the product arrived and it looked very different to normal connectors, so I was intrigued to see if it worked. When it arrived, the set was in a nicely branded QWICK Hose box, with clear illustrations of the product inside and, on the rear, diagrammatic instructions of how to fit the connector. The set included a grey Wall Mount, with a matching blue & grey Hose Connector, Nozzle Spray Gun, Tap Connector and a No-Flow Hose Connector. It also came with a free tomato seed strip, something to try out in the Spring.
All the parts feel really strong and robust, not at all flimsy, and with all the QWICK Hose products made from UV stabilised premium grade plastic they looked & felt like they should last a long time. The branded wall mount was easy to fix with a single screw each side (screws not provided), and with four hanging slots the various connectors just slot in for ease of use. It also has a tall lip at the top so you can wind a short hosepipe around it to keep it tidy when not in use. The connectors fit the hose very snugly by means of an unusual, but brilliant, hinged opening piece that fits around the hose followed by an integral plastic screw just to finish off. I initially found putting the hose in the connector was a little hard but following the instructions to soak the end in boiling water first made the process quick & easy.
The Nozzle Spray connector was excellent, not only does it have varying different sprays such as light mist or pressure jet, but it was also really ergonomic and felt comfortable to use. It was a great size too, easy to get into small gaps like the wheel arch of your car, or hanging baskets, unlike other traditional size heads. The No-Flow hose Connector stopped the hose well, which saved endless trips to the house to turn the tap off and on, and not once did any of the connectors feel like they might come off. In fact even with the most pressure I could get out of the tap, they didn’t even so much as wiggle.
The QWICK Hose Starter Set is a great Christmas gift idea that I’m so grateful to have been given the opportunity to try out. If the £39.99 price tag is a little above your budget, you can buy the connectors separately starting from £4.50, or club together and one buy the wall mount and others buy different parts to add to the collection.
