I always love going to The Lowry Theatre in Salford, Manchester as the building is so impressive. The modern style fits perfectly in the surroundings of the up and coming Salford Quays. Parking is excellent as well, as there is a multi-storey car park just across the way at the Lowry Outlet Mall.

As I waited to get my tickets the staff were all smiling and friendly and there were plenty of them around to offer help and assistance if needed.

I was at The Lowry this time to see the comedian Miles Jupp. I hadn’t really heard of Miles but had a good recommendation from my father so thought I would see for myself. Miles was performing in the Quays Theatre, which is the smaller of the two theatres at The Lowry, but this is the perfect setting for a comedy show as it is more intimate and you feel more of a connection to performer.

It was a really mixed audience, highlighting an appeal for the show across multiple age ranges. Each tier in the theatre was full, which was a great turn out for a bank holiday Monday.

Miles started his set by sharing his views on parenthood. Very interesting and I’m sure very relatable for most. Even those without children could appreciate the humour and imagine the scenarios! The other topics covered ranged from youth to stacking the dishwasher (doesn’t sound much but this was actually one of my favourite parts). The observations Miles was making about everyday life gave everyone something to relate to and he also touched on political views without being too strident, which was quite refreshing.

Throughout the show it was evident how much the audience was enjoying themselves as there was plenty of laughing out loud and applause. The show lasted around two hours, including a twenty minute interval, but I could have happily sat there longer, and I’m sure many others would agree.

The only down side about the venue is that they don’t do plastic glasses, so you are very limited on what drinks you can take into the theatre with you to avoid rushing them before the performance or during the interval. This didn’t impact on the enjoyment of the show though.

As far as the show was concerned I have no complaints whatsoever and would give Miles Jupp a 4 out of 5. I would strongly advise anyone who has the chance, to go and see Miles perform.

Rating: 4/5
